there are alot of ways you can, a header, full exhaust system, if it is an automatic then dont go too big on the exhaust, cold air intake/ram air intake, some lightweight and small rims will do wonders too, 14 or 15 inch with low pro tires, make sure everything is in tune, good spark plugs, wires and good air and oil filters....

the best power maker would be a turbo charger, depending on how strong your engine is depends on how much power you can get...

Get a high flow air filter element, replace the muffler with one that breathes easier and if the timing is adustable, bump it a degree or two at a time advanced until you hear slight engine knock and then turn it back 2 degrees.
Run some fuel system cleaner through that has NAPTHA in the ingredients.
These changes can add as much as 10-15 horsepower to the engine. That might not seem like much but it is an increase of about 15%!! And you will feel it in the acceleration.

There are some companies that make a cold air flow system for cars and they usually add 3-5 horsepower on a 4 cylinder. That can seem like a lot compared to stock.

Please let pinto beans alone. That motor started life as english ford 1500 then 1600 then 2.0 Capri, Pinto, next americanized 2.3 that engine had turbo on it Thunderbird around 1990 And pace car Mustang with square weird hood thing. Don't get carried away adding things to boost power on an old engine. Unless you like KA-Boom! Rebuild compleatly for turbocharging or buy a Mustang already with a V-8 engine because every drive train part is different on the V-8 car and suspension and brakes too!

I'd say get the parts from a 2.3 Turbo - or better yet, a complete running engine - and swap that in. Cheapest way to go for the power gain you'll get.

If you want naturally aspirated power, check out Esslinger Engineering. They specialize in Ford four bangers, and have managed to get over 200 hp out of them without a turbo.
