Ok, which vertical pics are you talking about? To take a vertical picture just turn your camera sideways. To get a vertical panarama get a panaramic lens and turn the camera sideways............

There is no secret to it. They just hold the camera vertically. However you hold the camera, thats the way the pic will come out to be. IF you hold it half way turned, then thats how the pic will come out like
