Does doing the drug acid expand your mind or make you "smarter"? Can it give you special insights or allow you to see what others cannot see? Or is it more of an illusion? I am in a band and my friends say I can not understand the music until I drop acid. Please help. Thank you.

Don't listen to the people who answered this question or your band mates. Do some research yourself.

It makes your synaptic pathways reconnect in different ways. I'd say it makes you stranger, not smarter per se.

So many BS answers here that is based on myth and hearsay and nothing to do with empirical evidence. I used to do a LOT of acid. I can say from personal experience (though by no means do I apply this to everyone....I'm sure it affects each person differently...) that it has never caused any long term negative effects. My alcohol consumption has had a MUCH worse effect on me over the years. LSD however, opened up my mind to many new perspectives and ways of thinking.

However, some people cannot handle hallucinations. Those are the people that "freak out", some harm themselves in the process, and those cases are the ones that get snatched up by parents and society to brand the drug as "bad".

Actually there is very little scientific knowledge about the drug. HOWEVER, recently LSD has been permitted to be studied again by the scientific community, and the preliminary findings are intriguing. It appears that LSD forces new neurotransmitters to process sensory input coming to the brain, and this is what causes the hallucinations. Since those neurons are doing work that it is not normally tasked to do, your brain cannot process it as well as the neurons that have been doing it all your life, so it distorts the information.

What does this mean? It COULD mean that you are training new pathways to open up in you brain, so it COULD be making you "smarter".

Either way, I trust my own experience, and I think it does expand my mind, if not making me "smarter". Anyway, "smarter" is such an ambiguous term. I tend to think it opens up my mind to new ways of thinking that I usually do not participate in during my day to day living. It could be tapping into the subconscious part of my brain, and making it work for the conscious part of my brain for a temporary period. Most of our brain is doing work that we are not aware of, just think of the secrets that it may possess?

If you take acid, do it with experienced people, and have a back up plan, like having some downers (eg Valium) or alchohol even, to calm you down if you do happen to "freak out".

Neither. It may give you the "feeling" that you're smarter but as with any other mind affecting drug, it's simply the illusion of being smarter. If the only way you can understand music is through dropping acid, then your band mates are leading you down the path to destruction. Get away from them before they completely screw you up.

I have taken several hits of acid at one time. I have held a 3.5 g.p.a and graduated with honors at UNCW. I did not have any severe brain loss. What it did for me was open up my sensitivity. I was a person who never cried or cared about anything until I dropped. The other side made me aware of things that I never looked at before. I started caring for others and having real feelings that helped me make better decisions. I think you should try it once and make sure you know the person you are getting it from. I feel that it opens a doorway in your brain that you would never get opened unless you drop. It has to be safe surroundings and make sure you are around people you love and love you. Do not be around people that you do not like or know. That will make it worst and I would recommend not leaving your house. Thanks and good luck expanding!!

haha Acid is the only drug (recreational ) that you will always test positive for after use. it lays dormant in your body for a life time. Its a hallucinogen so you may feel a euphoric effect or even worse be so affraid going into your "trip" that you freak out. And no offense but your "friends" are wrong about not being able to understand music until you drop acid.. music comes from the soul, and a true musician will always understand that part of themself

The path to mind expansion is fraught with peril. Many are unable to deal with the hidden skeletons buried deep within. I recommended the aid of a spirit walker to guide the journey. Ultimately your demons you must face alone. You must achieve lucid breakthrough, past the 4th stage on a shulgin scale. The further you journey past reality the more dangerous and potentially rewarding the outcome. You are looking for your Shiva centre, It is a room deep within your subconscious.Deeper than "who am I, What am I, What is I" Deeper than the "melting" Deeper than the "fractals" Through the dream realm, fight through the Nightmare realm, and awaken within the Shiva centre. How does it make you smarter when it puts holes in your brain, and possibly erases important everyday knowledge. I use to have a friend that dropped a lot of acid, and it definitely made him retarded! Everything that came out of his mouth was pure stupidity, no matter if he was on acid or totally sober. He was never stupid until he started doing that!

Well don't do it! Acid burns holes in your brain- literally. If the only way they can understand and appreciate their own music is to drop acid they were dumb@sses to begin with. Don't join suit just to fit in, be yourself, not some hallucinating, unemployed loser wondering what happened to his life.

It cannot make you smarter, but it can cause brain damage. How would you like to have flashbacks of bad acid trips in thirty years?
