I think you should be excited that your 7th grader wants to read at all. Just make sure they arent romance novels and be excited, you've done something right. When I was in 7th grade I read at a college level, some of the stuff I read wasnt age appropriate, but the fact that she reads for fun is wayyyyy more important than what she is reading.

I suggest you go to Amazon and read the blurb and reviews for those books. It's good to know exactly what your child is reading, but it would be better not to interfere. For one thing your child will start hiding what he/she is reading. Secondly, your child IS reading and that's always a plus.

I read anything and everything in my school years. Because my parents did not interfere, it was up to me to develop my own tastes in books. I learned romances were boring after the first hundred or so and historical novels were a heck of a lot better than dry history texts. My real love was science fiction. It presented new ideas in an interesting way. Now I have five science fiction novels published and none of them are like anything that's been done before.

If your child is reading, let it be. He/she will continue learning and will learn to judge for himself/herself what a good book is.
