why on the back of yao ming's jersey it has his first name and not his last.

Because in Asia, and parts of eastern Europe and Russia, the last name is expressed first. Yao is really his surname.

Yao is his last name. In China people say the last name before the first name when saying the person's full name.

its because in yao mings homeland they put the first name on the back. its the same thing with ichiro suzuki
