Her father is Argentinian and her mother is Mexican. We (Latin America) are the most multi-racial region in the world, much more than USA. How would you feel if you go to a foreing country and they tell you that you belong to the "Yankee race"? "Bush and Shaquille O'Neal are the same race". "What's your race: white, black, or yankee?"

I agree w/ you the whole thing is ridiculous, In my opinion the reason they do that here is because, they dont know where to fit people of Latin American descent in the yankee mindframe of black, white, asian etc, so since we have a common language is enough to lump us all in a "race" hence "Hispanic"

Why do you mix nationality, ethnicity and political groupings with race? Race has nothing to do with where you were born, who you identify with or want to be. Hispanic is not a race, neither is it a ethnic group and the same with Latino. They are both stupid political designations. Ask an Argentine in Argentina what he is and he will say, Argentinian or German. Ask a Mexican and he will say he is Mexican or Spanish or some Indian descent. They do not refer to themselves as Hispanic or Latino, this is a NYC term fostered by northern liberals.

A race is Caucasian, *******, oriental and Eskimo. A Hispanic was once one associated with Hispaniola, so by definition neither a Mexican nor a Argentinian can be Hispanic. A Latino was one of Latin descent, so every white NYC liberal can be called a Latino.

Thank you. Someone had to make that clear. There is a difference between race, heritage, and nationality, yet most just fuse these into one. Latinos are a mix of all races. Even Spain is one of the most mixed countries in Europe, both racially and culturally.

Hi...I'm Black. Thanks for your insight. I never thought about it like that. I guess I am l like many other Americans who have been conditioned to put a label on everybody. The race issue between black and white America has tainted us all. I automatically assume that anyone from Latin America is Hispanic...that's my ignorance and I am aware of it,now. I guess we need to have a better understanding of racial diversity before categorizing people.

I guess I'm a white American. In Europe I would be considered Latin though. In Europe you're Latin if you descend from ancestors whose root language was Latin. So if you're Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, even some French people are considered Latin. It's very confusing. My heritage is Italian, Polish, German, British, and Cherokee. All in all, it doesn't really matter.

When you are in your own country you are just white or black. When you are in USA you are Hispanic, African American. Caucasian, Italian, Irish and so on....so at this point I guess here I'm Hispanic and on other places I am white...

Caucasian, I guess.

But you know, caucasians are pretty diverse themselves. They're everything from lily-white Irishmen to dark-olive Hungarians. So that's about as diverse as the hispanic "race" is, too. We're a pretty motley bunch!

I agree. I have a friend who's mother was from Israel and her father from Germany. If my friend was born in the US she would be Caucasian or more likely Jewish. However since she was born in Venezuela she is considered Hispanic.
