Cause they gotcha. The U.S. is the only modern country in the world without universal health care.. I live where there is health care provided by the government (me from my taxes) While some rednecks squawk about this, the cost per ca pita is almost half of what it is in the U.S.

Someone answered that it cost several thousands of dollars for a very short stay in hospital. My last stay for an operation and three days cost nothing directly from my pocket.. While this type of care is anathema to some, what about the poor hard working sod who couldn't afford those costs.

I believe that before anyone derides universal health care, they should investigate it seriously before saying things that may not be true about its effectiveness. If you are happy to live with the HMO and pharmaceuticals propaganda then I wish you well and watch your fellow citizens go bankrupt because of health costs.

There is no such thing as "free" healthcare. If you want free healthcare, move to England and wait forever for a heart transplant. If you are 60 and need one, you ain't gonna get it because you are going to die sooner than the 40 year-old who needs one. "Free" health
care is just James Carville making foolish noises.

SOMEONE has to pay the doctors, nurses and the costs that run a hospital. I was just in the hospital last week for about 26 hours. The bill was almost $10,000-- less the doctor charges. If my care had been "free," it would have been double.

We give billions to Israel to keep the slimy, sleazy, murderous Arabs from killing the Israelis. I call that a bargain.

The question pops up from time to time. It is designed more to deprive Israel than saving American tax dollars.
Consider that America gives about $3 Billion in combined military and civilian aid to Israel:
$3B is tiny compared with America $2 TRILLION budget
The same people who complain about aid to Israel don't mind that we give $3B each year to Egypt
$3B is tiny compared with $80 billion/yr. spent in Iraq
$3B is tiny compared with $30 billion/yr. spent on farm subsidies
Christians have a Biblical connection with Israel
America and Israel have shared strategic interests:
Israel has missiles capable of reaching as far as the former Soviet Union
Israel has cooperated with the U.S. with R&D for new jet fighters and anti-missile defense systems
Israel's intelligence service has assisted the U.S. in intelligence gathering and covert operations.
Israel's frequent wars have provided battlefield testing for American arms, often against Soviet weapons.
Israel has kept Syria, for many years an ally of the Soviet Union, in check.
Compelling moral imperatives to support Israel are:
Israel is the only true democracy in the region. Arabs are represented in Israel's Parliament.
Fair play: Jews are not terrorists (according to American standards) while ALL terrorists are Muslims
Jews have never declared war on American values while some Muslims have
What is the alternative to Israel, terrorist organizations like Hezbollah/Hamas?
Palestinians and other Muslims supported Saddam Hussein and celebrate terrorist triumphs over the west.

Careful, you run the risk of being called an Anti-Semite for DARING to ask questions about Israel or our foreign policy as it relates to Israel!!!

I have often wondered why we support Israel as heavily and unquestionably as we do. It's not in the U.S.' best interest -- we derive little benefit from supporting them so thoroughly.

If we were truly neutral in the Middle East, we might actually be able to get some sort of peace that would last!

Why do we give billions a year to people in America that don't care to get off their butts and work for a living?
