I need to cut 2 out of 6 cylinders on a hot rod engine retro fitted in a power boat. I want to do this while shifting from neutral to forward or reverse since there is no clutch. As the engine idle RPM is a bit too fast, I want to cut 2 cylinders while shifting to reduce the impact on the stern drive mechanism. Any ideas... a regular toggle switch on the spark plug wires won't do the trick on the high voltage ignition ...

If you are just trying to cut the idle speed, you could install an idle speed control solenoid. These were used on a lot of engines in the late 60's early 70's on cars with air cond. And to reduce engine run on at shut down. They give you a base idle, and a regular idle. Then all you would have to do is find a idle speed that works for you.

get a 12 volt idle stop solenoid (also known as a fast idle solenoid) from your local NAPA store. Turn your idle back to the desired speed then use the solenoid to kick the idle up a notch when the slower speed is not required. It would be a simple one wire installation with a single pole toggle or rocker switch to activate it.

OK dude, first of all, get your idle down to 500-600 RPM, put a Rubber York Connector between your crank and output shaft to cushion the shifts
