G'day John C,
Thanks for the question.
I think that Barry Bonds will be under a cloud. Records are made to be broken but you don't want the person who broke it to be under a cloud.
Bonds holds many MLB records, including most home runs in a single season (73) and is second on the all-time career home runs list at 727, trailing only Hank Aaron's career total of 755 (and Aaron's National League total of 733). Bonds is generally thought of as being one of the top hitters of all time on a list headed by legends such as Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby and Ty Cobb. He is considered by many to be one of the best all around players in the history of baseball, and is regarded by many followers of baseball as the greatest player of all time.
Since 2003, Bonds has been a key figure at the center of the BALCO scandal, and a number of journalists have alleged that Bonds used steroids or other performance-enhancing substances, despite the fact that Bonds has never failed a drug test. To date Bonds has not been charged with any crime in connection with the BALCO incident. Additionally, a recent grand jury retired without issuing a single indictment.
If he was to be found to have taken steroids, it would have to have been deliberately. You can't accidentally take them and certainly not for a prolonged period.

I think that a lot of the public is just sort of ignoring the chase of hammerin Hank. I know that I wont consider him the real home run king even if he reaches 1000 home runs. He knowingly did steroids. If you havent read the game of shadows book yet, you should. Emmit Smith did not take any performance enhancing drugs so dont even try to compare a good athlete and great person to Barry Bonds. Records are made to be broken legally.

With all do respect.. Is everyone forgetting about EVERY OTHER PLAYER THAT DID STEROIDS??? Bonds is just another player that may have done them. Its hasent even been proven yet. Guys like Giambi and Sheffield and Ivan Rodriguez and Ken Caminiti and Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa and im sure hundreds of others did the same thing. So because he is better than them and Might of worked out harder than anyone else on them, he is the worst of them all. Screw that. No one thinks about stuff like that. Its pathetic. Im anti steroids and into baseball as much as anyone, but people are pathetic in saying that Bonds is a big cheater. Jealousy is a tough thing to get over. So what, you all cheated on tests and did drugs in highschool. And guess what? You still are on your computer answering questions about the guy and not out running your own business as a millionaire.
If he breaks the record, he breaks the record. I'll tip my hat.
Boo the guy all you want, he'll still have been one of the best ballplayers of all time. Thats more than all you can say about yourselves.

With all the controversy going on....I hope he doesn't break the record. He should retire at the end of this year, even though I have the feeling he's going to be signed as a DH in the American League just so he can break the record.
Will the public accept it? I don't think so....
What happened to McGwire?
If he does break it, I hope a guy like Pujols gets the title instead.
Too bad Griffey, Jr. doesn't have a shot anymore.

i'm not going to like it when/if barry bonds breaks hank aaron's record. barry bonds has been under controversy for the last couple of years, but huge spotlight has been put on it now when he's very close to over taking aaron's record. i think the public will not take bonds breaking that record lightly. except of course maybe the people that believe he's innocent.

no body is going to care but the giant fans. If he used who cares. People still go out to the park to see him hit a home run not a base hit. If he break the record he breaks it, it will only be in the news for a week and after that nobody will care if he was on something.

I think that as much as he's hated as a whole now that it will get even worse the closer he gets to the record. It's a shame because he was an all world player in his time, but he's also been all world ****** too. And, that with the fact that he's a cheater is why the hatred will only grow.

They shouldn't compare today's dudes with the greats...steroids or not. Today, (and I could be wrong, but I think this is what I remember hearing)...baseball players are using 36/37 ounce bats......back then they used 54 ounce bats! I say it's not fair to compare.
Cardinals just lost :(

he says he didnt know. but if you are rubbing a invisible steriod cream on your arms, he says he has authoritis (even though he doesnt), but he got away with it. and his trainer is paying for it (just got sent back to jail)
barry bonds wont even get there anyways. i hope his knees break.
oh btw g'day john c dude....dont EVER compare barry bonds to the greatest hitter of all time in ted williams. you are a terrible person and deserve to burn if you try to compare my ted and friggin bonds
