I dated a guy for 3 years in high school and 1st year of college. We are both with different people now and we've been chatting online for the last 6 months like nothing ever happened. I just told him I had a dream about us and his girlfriend (the one he had before me) and he said "if ya think i'm sexy come on let me know"-which are lyrics from a Rod Stewart song. I didn't take his remark seriously.. but the remark did spark something in my mind.

So anyway, what do you think? We've been broken up for 2 years now.

*We lost our virginities to each other. Does that matter in my case?

We never discuss the break-up.. which always started a fight for the first year and a half after the break up.

Its possible to be friends- but because you are so familiar with each other, it is like playing with fire. It probbaly wont take too much flirting for things to get out of hand, and if your in a relationship with someone else, and so is he, you will have to watch that this doesnt happen. Unless thats what you are hoping for. =)

Its hard to let go of a first love, and somewhere inside, you kind of never really do.

An interesting scenario for me, since I've had dreams of my ex-gf since we broke up 3 years ago.

Part of it might have to do with similarities between your current relationship and your past with him, or possibly even things that are missing with your current beau that were present before with the ex.

I noticed that you posted this quesiton in the Psychology section as well, and really, it's just a dream. Your dreaming state fires pulses that get interpreted as these nonsensical images that are drawn from recent memories or thoughts. It also doesn't appear in your ex's response that there is anything remotely serious for either of you to pursue.

If you're happy that you're broken up and you're with somebody else, then just take it as a familiar thing. If you want to rekindle this former relationship, recognize that your ex may be happy with someone else, and that you would be affecting someone else beyond just the two of you.

You guys share intimate feelings with each other and want to be a part of each others' lives. Its probably good that the two of you stay friends.

I'm still on good terms with all my ex's. I wouldn't say we are friends and talk to each other everyday. But there's no awkwardness when we run into each other.

If neither of you are in a committed relationship, I say go for it. However, if either of you are, then you are playing with fire....
