There are eight (8) time zones officially designated by the US government (US Code Title 15; Chapter 6; Subchapter IX; Sections 260-267)

The Code designates the following standard time zones:

- Atlantic Standard Time
- Eastern Standard Time
- Central Standard Time
- Mountain Standard Time
- Pacific Standard Time
- Alaska Standard Time
- Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time
- Samoa Standard Time

The eastern(EST), central(CST), mountain(MST), and pacific(PST) time zones cover the entire continental United States.

The two time zones with the smallest total land area would be the Hawaii-Aleutian and Samoa standard time zones.

Well I didnt know any of these were minor. There is eastern standard, central standard, rocky mountain, pacific, and then of course toss in daylight savings time. These are the four standard. Alaska has a few more.
