A string of saves by Ricardo allowed Portugal once again knock out England in the quarter-finals of a major championships on penalties, this time the 2006 FIFA World Cup as he saved from Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher in a 3-1 shoot-out win after a 0-0 draw after extra time. It is the first time during a World Cup event, that a goal keeper has managed to stop 3 penalties.

I was highly impressed with Ricardo's performance during the penalty shootouts against England. He was probably the best keeper during the world cup. You have already given us the stat. It tells us who is the smartest and the coolest when it comes to saving Penalties.

he's amazing!
Buffon is just an amazing goalkeeper during each game.

He was a good shootout golakeeper but during actual play he sucked.. the award went to the best goalkeeper already and that's Gigi Buffon

yeah, i think he's pretty solid on that score, even more impressive that buffon, imo. although he did miss that zidane pk but then zz is unstoppable in that area. he's like an executioner when he takes those shots, ricardo didn't really stand a chance. lol

i agree that he was the best spot kick stopper..he is a monster penalty saver...but i think buffon was owerall champ..

yeah he guessd all of the shots right, but the ones he didn't block were impossible, i should know i played goalie.
