All pumps are required to be equipped with auto shut off nozzles. Pump til the pump shuts off.

If you put the fuel nozzle in the tank and set the handle into the on/locked position, it will fill your tank until it reaches the nozzle. Then the sensors in the nozzle detect that the gas has reached it and will shut the pump off. However, some cars have the fuel filler at such an angle that you can't use the lock because the sensor will always detect fuel on it and some states have outlawed the lock as well.

Well I'm from Texas and when u fill up here the pump will automatically stop. One thing I do is fill up all the time so when the nozzle is in the tank and the gas hits the nozzle the pump will stop on its on.

Luckily I live in Jersey and its against the law to pump your own gas! When your tank is full the pump will automatically stop pumping

It's different in some cars but for most cars, it should make some kind of clicking noise to indicate that it has filled up. To make sure, just turn on your car and look at the little (E) (F) meter near your speedometer. If you stiill can't tell, look at the outrageous gas prices that you have to pay for gas!!!!! lol :D

Look in your owners manual. It will tell you how much your gas tank holds.

And never top off your tank...when you are putting gas in, when it stops, stop pumping. Topping off vents far too much into the atmosphere.

The pump has a reverse flow sensor that tells it when your tank is full and stops automatically.

It shuts off by itself.
If you're still uneasy about it, then try to find a full service gas station where they pump it for you (there aren't many of those left).

Fill the gas tank to the top, there should be a click to tell you when it is full.

They have automatic shut off, but somethimes it may throw it out on you. SO BE CAREFUL when it stops the first time don't make it take no more or you may get wet.
