Simply Computer science is the study of programming languages, like C+ and Java.
Information systems is the study of networks and how they operate together.
So, If you wanna create programs, video games, softwares you'd go for computer science.
If you wanna set up a network of computers and hook up a printer and routers and such, you'd go for Information systems.

Yeah, in a nutshell, Computer Science/Engineering degrees are geared more towards programming and other highly specialized IT environments. Information Systems is the "light" form of that that targets more of the business side -- how various systems interact in a corporate or business environment.

For example, many security experts where I work (that support SAP and Peoplesoft) have Information Systems degrees. That field is more flexible and is typically less related to computers and programming. On the flip side, computer science/engineering degrees typically pay more at first and in the long run, if you land the right position at the right company -- due to the nature of being highly specialized. The downside of that, of course, is that it plants you deep within the IT structure within a company and gives you less mobility to move around to other fields in a business environment...

I would say that CS is much more geared toward studying programming, complex algorithms and data structures, while IS is more focused on applying technology (software/hardware/networking) to solve business problems. You can make plenty of money majoring in either subject. IS is easier, at least for me, but I think CS is more interesting.
