Fossil evidence does not show that bats descended from shrewlike organisms.

Natural selection (proveable - does happen) does not lead to macroevolution (unproveable - doesn't happen). Sounds like your science teacher needs some science lessons. Evolution has already been thoroughly debunked and will be remembered in 50 years as a baseless theory that millions accepted on faith alone without the help of logic or critical thinking skills.

Ask your teacher if he/she is familiar with any of my listed sources. That will give you a clue as to his/her qualifications.

Natural selection is how animals adapt to their environment. In a population of animals, the individuals who have the most useful traits are more likely to survive. They reproduce and pass their traits on to their offspring. The individuals who have less useful traits are less likely to survive. They don't reproduce. So the useful traits are seen more and more and the less useful ones disappear.

If you want to hypothesize about how flying bats evolved from shrews, you have to guess at why flying would be a useful trait. Why would a shrew that could fly have an advantage over one that can't? What natural features of the animals' habitat would make it more likely for the flying animal to survive?
