Computer science is about the computer, and information systems is all about the platforms that can be used on a computer to process information.

Unfortunately these terms can mean whatever the people who are using them want them to mean. The computer field is filled with a lot of terms that basically mean the same thing. In spite of that I would think that Computer Science is the study of computer hardware and/or software. Information Systems is usually used to identify a group of people who work (not study) in the computer field, often in business applications areas.

When I worked as a computer programmer at different companies I was called a "computer programmer", a "systems analysis", a "systems engineer", an "information technician", and an "info worker", and guess what, I was doing exactly the same thing under all of those job titles.

Using 'computer' and 'science' together always seemd like an oxymoron to me.

All these terms are pretty much the same thing. Information Systems was a initially marketting buzzword wrapped around programming mainframes in Cobol.
Computer "science" was a fancyass term for making sure a university's mathematics department retained control over what is essentially an engineering field. Too, stringing liines of code together is not now, and never has been, "science".

Yeah, in a nutshell, computing gadget technological know-how/Engineering levels are geared extra in the direction of programming and different surprisingly somewhat professional IT environments. suggestion platforms is the "mild" form of that that objectives extra of the agency section -- how countless platforms work together in a company or agency environment. as an occasion, many protection experts the place I artwork (that help SAP and Peoplesoft) have suggestion platforms levels. That field is extra versatile and is typically much less bearing directly to computers and programming. on the turn section, computing gadget technological know-how/engineering levels regularly pay extra in the commencing up and interior the long-term, in case you land the suitable place on the suitable agency -- using character of being surprisingly somewhat professional. the downside of that, of direction, is that it plant life you deep interior the IT shape interior of a agency and can provide much less mobility to circulate around to different fields in a agency environment...

CS requires more math, less business while IS is the other way. IS is normally a concentration (focus) of the business major. It requires that you also study a lot of business courses (business law, accounting, management, labor...) You would study the role of IS in business. Of course, you also learn programming and other technical subjects of IS, only less than CS major. Hope this helps.
