I think many people can agree kids today have certainly lost their innocence and grow up much faster with much broader overall knowledge than previous generations.

Why?

1. Several of the past generations, including this one, have had better universal access to education esp. in poorer areas.

2. Society has decided overall that the value of play once considered "essential" and a natural part of childhood is now overrated.

Kids today are considered more "blank slates" who are supposed to constantly be in the process of logical deduction and learning.

Playtime doesn't offer a chance to master assembling raw facts and data.

3. Kids today are exposed to learning at an earlier age because now in the new "technology age" more people are realizing learning is a lifelong activity which never stops.

4. Many people believe the "quest" for knowledge means that the more a person learns (volume) will somehow also allow persons to draw on a larger, broader "knowledge base" which can enhance overall deductive logic.

I can think of other reasons but this seems like a good place to stop.
Kids becoming just kids, letting themselves just let loose is considered irresponsible parenting to some also.

Hope this helps at least some!

How do you think that the kids now adays are experienced that is totally the oppisite. Yes they know the cell phones, dvd, movies, sports, music, computers, video games, but do they know how the real world is to us grown ups. Sure we were punks at one point and thought we knew everthing NOT. What do kids know on how to raise a family, finding a job, a better education, how to spend money the right way, how to balance a check book, how to do ****** taxes. what are the forms you need and how to use them. KIDS ONLY KNOW KID STUFF that is all they know till they grow up. I am not saying that they are all bad, but all of them are inexperienced.

Well, yeah I think it is the media. But not just that, when my daughter started kindergarten she came home with math and reading homework. All I did in kindergarten was take naps and fingerpaint, so I what I am saying is I think the schools have a lot to do with it too. They are expecting kids to learn to much to fast. But this is just my opinion.

No, it is out inabilty to talk frankly about the body that makes them so curious so young. America is one of the few contries that beleives the body should remain covered at all times and for a growing mind thats like a dare. Not a good idea. In countries where violance is rated x and nudity and sex is rated pg or r there are less teen pregnacies and less sex crimes. For that matter there are less violent crimes period.

Media plus parents giving more money than attention. Also, childish pleasures like playing keep falling by the wayside--the neighborhood's too unsafe, the school's banning recess so there can be more time to memorize the standardized test questions, etc.

Yes. My daughter is only 6 but sometimes she puts on that melodramatic teenage attitude. She gets it from watching "that's so raven", and "lizzy macquire" and "the suite life of Zack and cody". And all her friends are allowed to watch these shows, so I let her too. But now I think she acts this way because she sees it in her role models and believes that's the way they're "supposed" to act. I think before we had tv and radio, we didn't have an preconcieved notions of how to act other than what we saw around us. Now my 6 year old thinks she supposed to be "crushing" on someone.

Media certainly isn't helping that's for sure. The way they portray everyone needing to look like Barbie or Ken dolls is sickening. No wonder 95% of the American population is superficial.

It's a lot of factors. Media and the fact that parents have very limited control over discipline. I'm not saying they need to be abusive but as a parent you have to be careful what you do or you can get into trouble ASAP. VERY limited. A parent can't be "harsh" anymore or it's construed as abuse.
