Subtract the smaller number from the larger number. Take that answer and divide it by the original price - you will get a decimal that you change to a percent.

For example:

30 - 25 = 5

5/25 = 1/5 = .2 = 20%

I think you can do the first part of each problem if you think for just a moment

the increase is pretty straightforward

orginal price $25, new price $30 ?? increase is $5
that is some very basic arithmetic
30-25=5, or the next one 2-1.60=.40

the % increase is only a very little bit trickier
you get the increase
you divide that increase by the original price
and you multiply by 100 to get it in % form

so, for number 1) 5/25=.2, then .2*100=20 --> so, 20%

and number 3) giving the odd numbers, like the books do
7.5-6=1.5 (thats the difference), 1.5/7.5=.2, then .2*100, again 20%

if you think about it you will see how if the price doubled say from 1.00 to 2.00, then you would get a difference of 1.00, and dividing and multiplying by 100, get 100% as the % increase

just like you would expect, it increased by its whole amount, it was 1 to start with, it increased by 1, 1 is all of 1, or 100%

good luck
keep at it
math is power

1. So, if your original price, $25, is increased by x% to $30, you'll have:
$25*x% + $25 = $30
So then
$25(1 + x%) = $30
1 + x% = $30/$25 = 1.2
x% = 0.2
x = 20%
So the original price increased by 20%.

Try the rest following this model.

Good luck! =)
