The Whitesnake Still of the Night is from 87. What a great song - remember the video?
Song was a total Led Zep ripoff, but who cares?

The song was a doo-wop song and was written by Fred Parris in 1956 while he was on guard duty in the Army. He is from the band 'The Five Satins'. They recorded it in the basement of their local church, St. Bernadette's, and the song was first released on the Standord label, and then later by Ember. It peaked number twenty-four on the top forty.

The Five Satins were led by Fred Parris, and in the mid-50's they came up with a classic doo-wop standard, In The Still Of The Nite.
THE FIVE SATINS

Their first release in July 1956 is “All Mine” but it fails to make the charts. In the meantime their second record “In The Still Of The Nite” is hitting big in the New York City area. “Ember”records buy the rights to the song and re-issue it on their label and it debuts on the national pop chart on 8 September. In November it peaks at #24 on the national chart and peaks at #3 on the R&B chart. It would go all the way to #1 in the New York City area and sell over a million copies. On 15 February 1957 they begin a US tour on “Irving Feld’s” “Greatest Show Of 1957” with “Chuck Berry”, “Fats Domino”, “LaVern Baker” and many others. They next release “Wonderful Girl” followed by “Oh Happy Day” but both singles fail to make the charts. “Oh Happy Day” would become a #4 hit in 1969 for “The Edwin Hawkins Singers” and go to #40 by “Glen Campbell” in 1970.
