Why is George Bush president?

Question

He didn't get the votes, but because of the Electoral College he's president. How?? Can someone explain in layman's terms how this could happen? And also, doesn't it say somewhere that if the people aren't satisfied with their governmental leadership, we have the right to make them step down? Why didn't we do this a long time ago?

It happened because his brother is the governor in the state which was in dispute, and the US Supreme Court, which handed him the presidency, is tilted in his party's favor. They actually ruled that the Florida State Supreme Court changed the law when it ruled that all the votes should be counted (correct me, but isn't that the whole idea of an election?) As to why there has been no big hue and cry for his removal, that (legally) must be done by Congress (which, again, is heavily tilted in his party's favor). And as for the electoral college, it was a bad idea from the start which soon became totally obsolete, and should have been immediately and summarily done away with.

The votes that people cast don't count, only the Electoral College votes count.

By preventing democrats in Florida from voting, they were able to steal the Floridian Electoral College votes, hence the worst thing ever to happen to this country sits in the Oval Office.

I don't know why we haven't forced him to step down. We'd have to get rid of Cheney, at least, as well before it would really do any good.

In 2000, Pres Bush won the electoral college. Each state has a number of points equal to the number of Congressman they have. There are 435 points up for grabs. When you win the vote count in a state, you get them all. This is in the US Constitution. We follow our laws in this country.

Pres Bush won reelection in 2004 by winning the electoral college again. This time he had more votes than 2000.

Liberals falsely lie and say that Bush stole the election. What actually happened is Al Gore wanted 3 of the numerous counties in FL to recount their ballots. This was unfair. If you recount a state, you count them all. The US Supreme Court go involved and correctly ended that mess.

There are liberals in this country that hate Bush. They can kiss my buttocks. The President does not have to leave. A majority of people want him in office. He finishes his term. Americans do not have a right to make him do anything. He has not been convicted of a high crime or misdemeanor.

I'm surprised to find someone still asking this question. Hello! Look up the electoral college process that EVERYONE who can read and write, or can even absorb through the great TV has known about since, I can't remember when. I remember hearing about it back in 1960 in the JFK/Nixon election, and ever since then. I read about it in "government" classes since then, all through college, and I've heard about it every 2 years when the elections come up. Are you just extremely young, or just extremely not paying attention!! HELLO!! Every individual in every election has known of this process since it was developed, for very sensible reasons, so WHY are YOU still stuck on it. Oh, you may be one of those "disenfranchised" individuals, wherein you'll never understand anything, so why would I want to explain this to you. Oh well. God Bless you.

Hmm . . . I don't know if you saw the last election, but the president actually not only won the electoral college, but also the popular vote. Also, he won the last election for a four year term. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean that you can tell him to step down.
