I'm asking because I find it much harder to write when I'm not well.

How does this work, for you? Under which circumstances you find it easier to express yourself? And when is it difficult?

Does writing helps you to feel beter or, at least, relieved?

Thank you for sharing your life with me and have a wonderful day! :)

My dear friend Moon,

Although when I'm happy, my humor is much more available for expression, I often write better when my motivation is therapeutic. Writing has helped me through the most difficult times in my life, and looking back at those instances, it seems to me my words were more raw and emotive than I can usually manage. Still, it’s sometimes hard to write well in moments of great sadness or anger, etc… so, it’s probably through the perspective and honest reflection granted in the passage of time that my writing is best.

Great question, Moon! :)

Being happy or sad makes a whole lot of difference to the quality of my writing and also the substance. When I am happy the ideas, words simply flow effortlessly and I can go on and on especially if it is on a topic I like. Also when happy I tend to inject some humour into my writing, as you can very well testify, Moon, from the answers I have given to some of your questions. I am at my best when I am happy.

Unfortunately, life is NOT all a bed of roses. I am not at my best now, and I actually stared at your questions for minutes before something came to my mind. When down, my mind is preoccupied with the 'cause' of my being down, hence ideas are harder to pop up and words sometimes fail me. As in your case, dear friend, it is only natural that you find it harder to write when you are unwell as your body is fighting the virus and is not 100% fit. Since your body is not 'fully operational' it stands to reason that your brain is not either. Just give it time. :)

In response to your other follow-up query, I express myself better when the birds are singing, the sun is shining bright, the wind is singing a beautiful lullaby - yes, when I am happy! When I am sad I become cautious of what I write, more so if the topic or subject matter is related to the cause of my sad state. Also, I may not be able to give an objective view, something in which I have always prided myself. So I write very little when I am not my usual cheerful self.

Writing does not help me feel better, Moon, but at least it provides a temporary relief. The 'situation' is still there, and it is for me, and no one else, to resolve.

You have a wonderful day too, my friend. Please get well soon. :)

Sitting down to write at all--whether it's a short story or a letter--is harder when I'm not well, whether it's emotionally, physically, or mentally. It's a matter of making myself write the first word that comes to mind, do a few short sentences or a paragraph, and then go on to the real body of work that I have planned.

I'm bipolar so it's a toss-up how easy I find it to express myself. A lot depends on the content for that day. When I'm finished I have to print it off because seeing it on the computer doesn't make it real. Having a paper copy makes it seem like I'm seeing a mirror image of my brain.

The best part of writing is the editing. Whether I do it right away, or wait a day or so, I can review what I've written and either delete or expand what may not have been as good as it could have been in my mood hadn't been fluctuating. It's satisfying to take something you've written and basically like, but make it better.

I like your question--it's something I hadn't thought about.

Good question. I find it much easier to write when I'm sad or angry. I find it hard to write when I'm happy. I think I write more easily when I'm down because I don't like to take out my frustrations on other people. Writing is my release. i don't really cry, so writing is how I shed tears a lot of times.

ive just finished my novel as well and i find i write better when im sad or upset becuase i use my emotions to fuel my story along...and to make it more real...more vivid..
i write as i feel...i figure why not...
but it was very hard to let go of my characters and out 'the end' on it though..
i keep a journal too though and just pound out everything in it when i get sad or upset...

When I was younger, I used to have to be down in the dumps to write.

Now, it doesn't seem to make a difference. I can write no matter how I'm feeling or what mood I happen to be in.

Putting my thoughts down on paper has always felt good to me. I write a newspaper column and so no matter how I'm feeling, I know there's at least one thing I have to write every week!!

Everyone is different of course. That's why we have so many different personalities form the different books we read.

Solemn, sorrow-like, goth-like artists like Poe exemplify the sad writers. There's also the happy writers like Transcendentalists [writers who talk about nature and optimism].

I write good poems when I'm in deep emotion: love, sadness, or extreme anger. Most of these poems make me feel better because its like an alternative to venting it out or telling it to someone.

Usually when I'm sad or upset over something, I find it harder to concentrate on my writing. Of course, I often pace even when I'm in a decent mood, but I generally get more writing done when I'm happy.

I had a friend just pass away and I have a comp paper I need to get started on, and I am finding that right now I don't have any drive to get started on it.. so I would have to say I could write better if I didn't have this on my mind....

As for me I try not to write anything not to influence people and bring them this feeling. And besides I can't write anything when I am sad or frustrated. I do something with hands - begin to knit and try to think about pleasant things.
