I think, if they are skilled and trained, it can be a sport. It can be just as much as a sport as gymnastics or dance. It takes skill and long practice to get the routine down. I'm not a cheerleader, so its not like I'm trying to defend myself. But I have seen, in my school, cheer leaders that suck and do nothing, i couldnt say that they are 'doing' a sport. Because all they are doing is running around and yelling. Those who do incorporate gymnastics and dance are, in a way, athletes.

Cheerleading is not a sport. It is a part of a sport. Kinda like peanut butter is the sport and the jelly is the cheerleader part. It's not right to have one without the other...lol...

Not totally. The gymnastics part of it, yes that's a sport- but the whole Raw-Raw, Cheer with me part, no, definetely not a sport.
for those of you saying that it is because they train hard, then you can't say that marching band and colorguard aren't sports- we train hard too!
