i would just say that evolution is simnply the changing of a species...
what i ask my hardcorse chritian friends what they think of evolution they just say something like "thats bs"... adn then i respond w/ " since change is the only real constant on this planet then why wouldnt god give us the ability to adapt to our enviornment?"... that shuts em up...
let me give you an example... if u were to use pesticides on a group of roaches then the ones who can resist the poisons will obviously live, and the ones who cant resist it die. If the survivng roaches have babies then their offspring would be resisnt also... now i guess one could say that these roaches have evolved to resist the poison. its all genetics.
and in regards to your question... yes... we did evolve from primitive primates.

It's very difficult, but I've been able to make at least a little bit of an impact on them with this explination: Evolution is the process of passing genetics onto the next generation, from parent to offspring.---> That sounds like a textbook answer because it is. But it works well when talking to these people.
Hoever, there are always people who don't want to believe, or even listen to other sides of an arguement. You'll have to deal with those as well.
Simple, effective and it stays off the topic of humans evolving from apes.

you can find several good references on this subject. the "darwinism under the microscope" is a good book, but it is a little dry and has too much filler for my taste. the examples in the book dealing with "irreducible complexity" are also good.
but remember, we do see micro-evolution in our daily lives, even if we dont notice it. take the black male and white female couple, they produce a child who has the skin colour of the father, or the mother or neither. that is a form of micro-evolution.
there is also much evidence that micro-evolution occurs in nature for the same reason. some insects interbreed and produce ofspring that have characteristics of one or both parents but may not be identical to either one.
oh, and lest we forget my mind boggler: perhaps we were evolved from apes (not monkeys) because God has such a great acme genetics lab in His house.
there are far too many books that tout the darweenian theory.
also look up the java man and the pigs tooth that they touted as early man (before the american indians) in america. with one tooth, they created an entire skeleton and skull and wrote a history of an early ancestor of man. then found out that it was a PIGS TOOTH!

Questions and answers on this website concerning evolution give me the firm impression that in order to understand evolutionary theory one has to have a certain amount of knowledge in biology. If this is not present, any arguments one can make just don't have any impact, because there is no knowledge in the recipient which allows them to judge the correctness and logic of the evolutionary statement versus the non-evolutionary statement. Sounds like you should be concerned about the quality of your biology lessons at school.

Are you pro or con evolution? It is hard to tell from your question.
We did not evolve from monkeys, but rather all primates that exist today evolved separately from a common (but different) ancestor. A great book to read is 'the beak of the finch' which highlights evolution in a more comprehendable situation.

I totally understand your position, I've been there before. Just remind them that evolution is a process, a change over time. And point out that we see it occurring today. The finches in the Galapagos are a good example (I could explain it allll here, but you're better off looking it up yourself!) Just prepare yourself for no one to understand, or want to understand. And humans are classified as primates, making monkeys our cousins.

That's just a small, trivial extension of the overall theory. However, if someone admits evolution is true for the rest of the world, it's very hard for them to qualify it with "...but God made us special."

Just ask them who or what kind of force give life to the first organic cell.

evolution is sooooo stupid! in my opinion anyway. just tell ask them how our bodies were "accidentally" made to have exactly the right "equipment" to reproduce. i mean there is no way that we could have been made like that by accident. its perfectly logical.
