It was turned into a race issue when the media kept the cameras on the people of New Orleans, and MOST of them happen to be black (from what we saw of course). They kept the cameras out of Mississippi, where there are a lot of white people, including me. They also dwelled on the fact that the govt took so long getting there, whereas it took just as long for them to come here.
Jesse Jackson and Kanye West opened the big fat racist worthless pathetic mouths to start their own kind of race battle. They gave NO money nor any time in helping these people, expect saying something dumb like "Bush hates black people." West is such a fool...such an idiot!! All you see on tv is New Orleans and the way they whine and complain....in Mississippi, we're rebuilding and a lot of places have opened up already.
In Louisiana, Nagin and Blanco are still trying to figure out who to blame...whereas in Mississippi, Barbour, Taylor, and Lott have done the right thing...taking care of what needed to be done...no matter what race or party anyone is!

Are you serious!!!Personally, I feel that the correct protocol was not taken. Many residents of New Orleans did not have power up to 10 hours before the storm so how could one possibly evacuate. Also, it was not the hurricane that caused all the disaster it was the lack of responsibility of the engineer who waited 40 + years to adhere to the codes and upkeep of the levees. When the levees broke that's when all hell broke loose. That's why people blame the govt. Do you believe if the Statue of liberty needed upkeep or maintenance it will be ignored for 30 + years or even the White House. i don't think so? Ignoring the levees was just the political agenda of the big time builders to rebuild New Orleans as a Casino district. they were just awaiting something to destroy and clear as many poor and minorities as they could without paying them off to move. Gentrification, look it up!!
Imagine your 16 year old cousin picked up for a possible suspect for vandalism on Aug. 28, 2005 just because he fit the description of a young black male with a red t-shirt and blue jeans. He sat in a holding cell for 48 hours. Due to all the drama with Katrina he was not given the phone call nor did he get evacuated. As the water grew him and other whom were stopped or detained by the police just set in a cell while the water was rising. They all drowned many were not even convicted nor did they committ crimes (runaways, profiled suspects) See the media left out so many things and you have the audacity to say its whining many people died slow and painfully, watching there lives pass by why the water rose. Our gov't who say the work for all people have their political agendas and the caliber of people whom made up New Orleans did not make their agenda!! And Katrina was an aid in whipping out what they see as the bottom percentage!!
Its not white people its Bush. Many just belive that if this happened to a more desirable race thing would have been done different

I don't believe that people are actually blaming the white man for the hurricane. The problem is that if Katrina had devastated a predominantly white area it is unquestionable that the response would not have been the same. I don't believe that it is racism on the part of the American people that led to the catastrophe in Katrina. Our goverment did not respond because we have accepted the discriminatory practices, stereotypes and subtle mistreatment that plague us daily. We have been pushing them under the rug for years and this time they came out slap in our faces for all the world. There is plenty of blame to go around but the underlying fact remains that the government failed to protect its citizens in their time of need. To say that the same thing would have taken place in Palm Beach is ludicrous. A year after the disaster and we have yet to use the chance we had to get this discussion into the air. Whenever anyone mentions race we all retreat. Burying our heads in the sand never solved anything. Its time that we find a solution.

It really seems completely silly to try to place the blame on a person or group of people for a NATURAL disaster.
I really think that when it comes to topics like this, race should not even be an issue. Just because there happen to be many white political leaders and New Orleans happens to have a large black community, is in no way indicative of any kind of racism. Nobody was denied emergency aid on the basis of their race.
The problem, if one could even be legitimately identified, would be simply as you put it: a mismanaged budget.
Of course Katrina was a devastating event, but there is no reason for anyone to start pulling the race card on this.

I heard people say ,cant those fools leave like every one else.I told these people that the ones that were left behind were the ones that had no means of leaving. So I would say it is just some speaking without thinking or actualy knowing the facts. So it starts to speads like that.People always look down because there human.Human nature as it is ,you had better not show up with a pimple at your class reunion.
