My gym shorts have a pullstring tie on the inside, but one end of it is pulled out, and the other end is about 1/3 of the way into the waistband. And the waistband hole is very narrow! How do I retrieve the string end? I thought I tied a knot on them, but maybe not. Thanks!

Pull it all the way out. Fasten a small safety pin on one end of the string (make sure it's secure) and push that back through (closed, of course).

Pull the string all the way out. Take a safety pin, large enough to find, small enough to fit through
the hole on the waistband. Put the pin through one end of the string. Put it in the hole and work it through from the outside by manipulating the safety pin. Use the largest pin that will fit the hole.
Pin should be closed. Hope this makes sense. If not, let me know. I've done this a hundred times with 3 kids.

You could use a paper clip, too.

Open one of the ends of the paper clip, push the curved end through the opening until you get to the end that's trapped inside, hook that through the string and pull it back through.

If you had a tiny crochet hook, it could be used in the same way.

Pull it out from the other end and start over. Attach a pin to one end and thread it through the waist band. The knot needs to be bigger.
