On July 12, 2006, Hezbollah captured 2 Israeli soldiers in the Shaaba farms area that is disputed to be Lebanese territory and Israeli territory. While this action was problematic, in itself it was not severe enough to warrant Israel's actions. It was the rockets fired by Hezbollah at Haifa, Israel on July 13, 2006 that caused Israel to launch airstrikes against Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon.

The recent events were triggered by the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers...The first report was saying that those soldiers were kidnapped from Lebanon. It seems they crossed border into Lebanon and Hezbollah saw that as a provocation. The second day the same report was saying that the soldiers were kidnapped from the Israeli-Lebanese border. The third day ,the same report was saying that Hezbollah crossed the border into Israel and kidnapped the soldiers...
Anyway this Israel-Hezbollah conflict goes back since 1982,since the creation of Hezbollah,as a response to Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon...

It wasn't just the kidnapping of the soldiers. Hezbollah began firing rockets into Israel! If someone started firing rockets into my backyard, I certainly wouldn't sit around and let it happen. Hezbollah clearly started it. When Jews don't defend themselves, the results are disastrous.
