Bulletins keep appearing that I didn't post, and I've had 2 random new friends appear that I didn't request. What's going on?!?!

It's not necessarily a virus, more like a password phishing script. Sometimes you'll get a bulletin from a friend and it says some garbage like "I got a free ring tone by clicking on this address, check it out!". So when you click the link in the bulletin it takes you to a page that looks like the MySpace "enter your password" page. You enter your password and don't get a free ring tone then wonder what the hell just happened.

What really just happened: someone clever created a fake MySpace "enter your password" page and threw it up on the web, it looks identical to the actual MySpace page, but when you enter your log-in and password it goes to the person who created the fake page. Thus, they just stole your info and can create bulletins under your name with the same line of "check out this link".

Change your password immediately, and if you ever come across the MySpace "enter your password" page check the address bar and make sure it says "http://xxxx.myspace.com/xxxx/xxx/xx". Whereas the x's are garbled letters and numbers and the main thing to look for is that the first section after "http://" ends with "myspace.com". it might say something like "login.myspace.com" which is what you are looking for.

It is possible to have a virus named MySpace, so in that regard, yes. From what you are describing it is much more likely that your account has been compromised and your password stolen by someone or some program that ended up on your computer. Inform MySpace of the account breach and change your password. Update and run your anti-virus software. Also run your anti-spyware software. If you don't have one or either of these types of programs then I highly suggest you purchase them in order to keep your pc safe as well as any personal information on your computer, or any information that you submit online. If you don't already have one I also recommend getting a firewall program.

It is not a virus but rather a bot. There is a computer that is "attacking" your myspace account and posting random things and possibly screwing with your friends list. You MIGHT want to check your personal computer for any spyware or malware that could have gotten into your system and stolen your myspace account password.

Good luck.

Hope this helps and I hope you can save your myspace account.

Yours with sincerity,
J.T.

Do you still have Tom as one of your friends? Go to his profile and look under the FAQ link. There is a question that deals with your symptoms: When I log onto my profile everything looks different? Why? (This isn't precise wording but it's similar.)

The security of your profile may have been breached. The resulting answer to that question will give you a solution.
