have you got some spare room to make a play room for the children ? if not i suggest taking half of their toys away and store them for a few months ,then swap them over ,meantime put the kids and the cat outside for a few hours and clean one room at a time ,lock off or put up a barrier in a doorway to keep them out of the cleaned parts of the house .give them a box with some of their toys in and let them play with those for the day .encourage them to pick up after themselves ,don't let them into the cleaned parts of the house .let them have one part for them to play in and make a mess .don't give them food or lollies to eat wherever they play ,eat only at the table ,have a face washer handy to wipe hands and face to stop sticky hands getting onto furniture etc. much easier to clean one room where they have been all day ,unless they are outside ,than the whole house when they had the run of the house ..outside games can be fun too in warm weather give them a small pail of water and some paint brushes and tell them to ''paint the house ''the water won't hurt the house and they will be amused for hours. get a sand pit for them and help them to make mud pies . be prepared to wash them down after this game . make a garden with them that is their garden ,plant some easy flowers like marigolds .kids love to play with boxes outside too all different sizes and shapes .they will climb into and out of them for ages .see that the kids run around the yard if the weather permits and no afternoon naps .they will be so tired they will go to bed earlier and you can have a rest

How old are the kids? Make them a play room and tell them that if they brings any toys out of the playroom they have to put them back in the play room when they are finished for the day and designate specific play areas.
Re: the cat... Brush the cat every day if there is a problem with shedding and get a kitty door so the cat can go outside to the litter box. Whatever you do. DO NOT leave the kitty litter box inside. It always smells. I don't care how many times you clean it.
If all else fails hire a maid. At least once a month for assistance with deeper cleaning.

I agree w/the others,relax on your standards a bit.
I've got 6 kids, huge dog,hubby,2200 sq. ft. house. It's in pretty good shape.Make the kids work if they're old enough. We have a chore chart..If they go to bed without cleaning their chore for the night(to be done 2x/day at least/chore lasts a wk))They get the chore for another week.

Give your kids a LIST of chores to do every day.......you'll be amazed how much less bending and picking up you will have to do...find a girlfriend for the cat, that'll keep him busy.

I have a husband, 2 kids & 4 cats. You just have to do it. I've become a night cleaner when everyone goes to bed.

are you living my life??? seriously, devote 15 minutes straight each day to blitzing the place. (it sort of makes me feel as if I'm not cleaning nonstop) also, put your cat's food dish and water dish in a 9x13 baking pan---this way s/he will not splash food or water all over the place. make one of your kids feed the cat. oh, and also, hire a housekeeper! :)

Maybe you need to rethink your standards of cleanliness. Now don't become unsanitary pigs, but maybe you're being too fastidious. Your children are only young for a short period of time, and you don't want to miss spending this precious time with them. You'll be cleaning for the rest of your life, but you'll only have little children for a very short time.

this is what my mom does... she sets up a playroom w/ a tv hooked up to a satlite or cable and 1 tv for video games and i put my computer in there cuz thats where i am most of the time.. we only leave that room to use the restroom adn to go into the kitchen to eat and our bedrooms to go to sleep....
the only conflict is what to watch on TV.. since im 17 i like to watch more mature/educational shows... and my little brothers like spongebob and stuff... but i managed to build a schedual we all like.
but the only problem is the messes they make... so get them to clen up after themselves.
worked for us... and we r 4 hyperactive kids.
