in Salamanca. I'm not going to Spain to study spanish exclusively, though it is one class I'm going to choose. I'm going for the experience in "studying abroad". This is for Spring 2007, so I would like info about the weather in addition, to the college life, nightlife, people/culture..etc. Anybody have any suggestions? I really need advice. Btw, both trips cost around 6, 000. Thanks.

Very different places. I'd go for Salamanca. Beautiful college town. A lot of cultural activities, great nightlife for students, and Madrid is closeby if you want the really big thing. Spring is still a bit cold. Barcelona is a really big city, too big for my taste. Strong independentist movement, lots of skinhead gangs, arab illegals, squatters, you know, big european city. Best if you want to learn some catalan, the local language, and you'll find many classes ONLY in catalan. Weather is a lot better. As far as locals go, I think Salamancans are nicer in general. Barcelona is more touristy and international. Tough choice, eh? I'd settle for Salamanca in your case, especially if you get a chance to visit Madrid, a GREAT city, easily the best nightlife in Spain, try the local tascas around the Plaza Mayor. And Madrid people are fantastic. Really friendly. I love it. And don't miss the other beautiful towns like Avila, Segovia, Toledo, etc. Around Barcelona there's not much to visit in spring, except for the city itself, but later in summer you have FANTASTIC beaches in the Costa Brava to the north, some of the best in Europe, better than the famous French Riviera.

Did any of this help??

Have a good time! Adiós y buena suerte!

Barcelona is a much larger city with a wider toursit base, so you'll have the option of falling back into English while you learn Spanish. I just returned from a study Abroad program in Madrid and it was incredible. Barcelona has a great history and so many interesting sites, of course one being Gaudi's work, bohemian sections, great food. It's still in the Mediteranean, so it's hot, but it is by the ocean which helps a bit. The people in Barcelona are much more accomidating and pleasant. Have a great time! Spain is such a great country and so beautiful!

Personally I'd choose Barcelona. The city is amazing and the atmosphere is electric. Night life will never be a problem and the weather's should be nice in spring. As far as culture and people anywhere in Spain if full of it and the people are awseome as long as you treat them with respect.
