I like the looks of the squash plants - big and leafy with yellow flowers....plus the bonus of something to eventually eat. I plant acorn squash with seeds I save from squash I buy at the store.

I do this for two reasons...I have zucchini in the back garden and don't want the two to cross-pollinate and squash in front doesn't need any tending and the leaves spread out far enough that I don't have to try to mow the lawn close to the "flower" bed between it and the sidewalk from the driveway to my front yard.

I love this!
I didn't do it this year, but want to next year.
In Portland, Oregon's Sellwood district tons of people have big old houses will small showy front yards.
Many of them have squash in the front flower beds. It's gorgeous.

Yes, I have seen this done and I too like the dark green leaves and the big flowers that are produced. It's a very unique way to not only get squash at the end of the season but also to brighten up your yard.

Wow as a lot as i concept this became really a peculiar question I purely favor to commend your appreciate for questioning about the destiny and the waste aspect of what you're doing, it purely shows you actual care! yet certainly it isn't undesirable, because plant existence produce pollen which could actually help pollenate plant life around the nation-state which could actually help to keep up the flora and fauna contained in the area so that you at the on the spot are not dropping powerful elements!

Not in the front flower bed, but it is the star of my garden. What a gorgeous plant! And it is a true workhorse. Have you ever tried birdhouse gourd...my personal favorite? Unlike most of its family, it gets a white five petaled blossom.

Nope. I have flowers in the front and a garden in the back. I don't know why I do it that way.
