It's what in the food:):). usually fish. cat food is basically fish and other animal bi-products, and the companies are not going out of the way to make it smell better to you as the cat doesn't care a rats as either way.
It smells attracts the cat or it wold not eat it.

Maybe stinky canned cat food appeals to cats more! It sure gives them bad breath!

horse meat and other byproducts such as large road kill animals that don't to a zoo for the big cats.....but mostly cat food and others are offal and other byproducts....the label is on the can is political correct words not to offend cat lovers.
