It's an extra credit problem and the metal is very thin. The liquid is clear. What is it?

Its maybe magnesium or any other rective group 1 o2 metal. The liquid is mineral oil to stop it reacting with the air.

A clear liquid metal? The only liquid metal I know of is mercury, but it's opaque. Good Luck on this. Look at your Periodic Table for clues.

You misstated your question, the answer is magnesium.
When water is put on a magnesium fire. bad things happen.
it actually intensifies the fire.
