a) i play the guitar, a lot of people i know do it, too, and i don't consider myself or these people any cooler than others - and, as far as i can see it, neither do they.
b) who said it was the easiest instrument to play? there are a couple of chords that are easy alright, and in some genres of music they can take you a fair bit of the way, but if you're in any way serious about your guitar, you'll want to proceed beyond that and tie your fingers into knots practising. believe me, there is nothing easy about becoming even a half-decent guitarist.

The guitar can be extremely simple. Or it can be extremely complex depending on how it is played. A person could simply strum chords. Most people just do that and maybe throw in a few fancy sounding tricks now and again. However, there are some people who have made the guitar into a fine art. Have you ever heard a Spanish guitar player? They are amazing. Or heard someone one on a classical guitar playing something written by Mozart for the piano? Very very difficult and beautiful. Anyone who has ever heard a master guitarist would agree that playing a guitar in that manner is anything but easy.

It's not the easiest instrument to play. The basics I admit are easy but get past that and your in for a hell of a show buddy. The solo's you hear on the radio come from about 10 scales which you have to know to know how to play. There are countless amounts of major, pentatonic, minor and jazz scales. And you have to know how to form chords not by looking them up on the net but by the strategy of formation. Some people play for 30 years and don't know everything. There a bunch of different kinds of guitar (acoustic, electric, jazz, blues). Take guitar for 2 years or so. You'll know what I'm talking about. You must be thinking about the kids who learn some AFI song with 3 chords and stop and say they can play guitar. Those kids are posers and shouldn't play. I'm talking about the guys who are truly in love with the instrument who've played it all their lives. They'll tell you it wasn't easy.

I was cool WAY before I taught myself to play the guitar.

p.s it may be the easiest to learn, but it's the most difficult to master.

I don't agree. The piano is a lot easier to learn than the guitar, it's just harder to carry around!
