I think it crosses the line at name calling, and unfounded accusations.

Criticism is a must for any country to succeed. A country can never do anything perfectly as there will always be two or more parties in a government. If one party wins, the other party will surely disagree on most cases since they have different views. Criticism helps form a government that appeases the majority of people. Criticism's effects are worthless however, if the critics take violent action towards the government. If critics would like violence then they should move elsewhere and try to manage their own country.

I think that it is okay because how else are we going to change anything if we don't criticize anything that people do. This country is supposed to have freedom of speech. This gives us the right to say what we want about whatever it is that we feel we should be criticizing. I think that it becomes a problem when people riot and when people hurt other people but as long as nobody is being hurt and we might could change something by giving out a little criticism every now and again then who is it going to benefit? Us of course. We are the people. We are the voices of America. We should be allowed to voice our opinions when we feel that it is necessary to voice them. Whether it is criticism or praise that is our God given right. They are already taking to much away from us. For them to take away our own opinions is just down right insane but like I said the line is drawn when people start getting hurt.

Not only is it OK, our right to criticize our government when they stray is a citizens responsibility. Notice I said when they stray because most of the partisan crap that goes on is put on by folks that don't even understand the issue at hand. Most activist have tunnel vision so bad they do not see, or probably care, how one action for their cause can have rippling effects to other policies. This country was formed basically because a group got together with a list of gripes about their government and figured out what had to be done to correct the problem. There is no line to be crossed if criticism is about something our government is doing if it is illegal or immoral. The idea Bush and his partners put forth is that those who criticize him and his policies are traitors. They wrap themselves in the flag telling us their actions are for national security so they must keep it secret. In years past, when a country squashed personal liberty, kept citizens from knowing their actions, and called its opponents traitors, we had a name for them and that was Fascists. I know Bush can't speak, but when did he re-write the dictionary.

Of course it is okay to criticize a government. How else are things supposed to get better if we don't find errors and correct them? Where criticism crosses the line is when lies become involved. Other than that everyone had EVERY right to voice their opinions of criticism and encouragement. Just like you would a child.

There should be no line. A country can only grow and improve if it's citizens participate and contribute input. That includes criticism. And criticism can unfortunately include untruths. Too bad. Get used to it. Read any Ann Coulter or Bill O'Reilly lately.
No one said anything about violence. That's called Anarchy. I thought we were talking Criticism.
Stay on subject folks.

Of course, it's ok to criticize the government of one own's country. The line is crossed when the criticism is said in public on another country's soil (see The Dixie Chicks). The line is also crossed when the criticism turns from a valid argument to simple name calling / vile-filled attacks.

Yes,I think that a citizen of a country can criticize the government of that country. That are why elections exist. When you vote one way or another, aren't you criticizing the other side?

This is the great USA. That is part of it. We can say what we want. The only time the line is crossed, is if a person were to threaten to harm a government official or some other sort of physical harm. We can say our government is full of a bunch of egotistical, selfish, power seeking, uncaring, B-------. That is one reason why it is such a nice place to live.

Absolutely, in fact I think it is necessary. Government is necessary to maintain order (if it weren't there hundreds of warlords would each be trying to seize power and wind up killing hundreds). However, government is in and of itself a power organization, and when you give someone power they want more nearly everytime. Criticizing the government and maintaining a constant "fight the establishment" mentality among the citizenry will keep the power from being concentrated in the hands of those in the government and maintain order and peace while not taking away freedom.
