Are you talking about the Karr dude? most of them have something to gain
1. i think the attention (negative attention is better than none)
2. Karr was stuck in Asia, no money and what a way of getting a free ride back to the states.
3. 15 seconds of fame (yeah we are talking about him now)
4. hopefully a book deal for psychos

I think a lot of times it's for the attention or mental illness. In Karr's case I suspect there are several reasons, including wanting to get back to the U.S. I believe he was under investigation in Thailand for abuse and no one wants to serve time in a jail oversees.

I have wondered that myself like the man who killed Jon Benet and the DNA shows he didn't . Some people I think just want the attention.

Because they become as big as celebrities as Britney Spears...w/ little or no jail time, and it's free!

You'll make $$$ off book deals, for sure...pretty sweet deal for the scum, eh?

Mainly, they are sick in the head. People that do it need to spend the rest of their lives in a psychiatric hospital.

They want notoriety and attention or they may be mentally ill and believe that they did do the crime when they didn't.

I think there is some form of mental illness in those cases.
