Disneyland or Catalina were some options, but both seem to be especially pricey because of the 3-day .... I guess it'll be like that everywhere, got any other ideas?

I've got a better suggestion...
all you've got to do is both of you board a plane, fly to Atlanta and y'all can help me clean out my garage this weekend.
Sounds like fun, right???
All the free margaritas and beer you can hold as well.

check out the USS Midway at the Navy Pier downtown. it is a great ship with so much history. you will learn alot during the tour, and my guess is it might be off the beaten path a little bit. i know it's a tourist attraction but it won't be near as busy as say disneyland.
a couple months ago i took a vacation to LA and made a special trip to san diego just to see the Midway. it was one of the ships my father was on during the vietnam war. so maybe it has special meaning to me, but it was great! it was actually the highlight of my vacation.

rent a hotel room in the mission bay area - they tend to be a little cheaper than the other beaches.
disneyland - they usually have cali discounts
sea world
almost everyone is going to be on the beaches because this is the last warm long weekend, the tourist traps are usually pretty decent. i love balboa park. you don't have to do the whole weekend up!

I went to yahoo search browser and typed in .... labor day ideas.... and it came up with all kinds of links. Try it... It even has me interested in finding different ideas than what I normally do. could go to a recreational park and just enjoy. Good luck
