because it ended up that there wasn't a single user-created room on yahoo without the words '****' or '******' or 'black men looking for white *****', 'join this room if y'all want to suck my ****' and so on and so on in the room's title.
yahoo turned into a BIG seedy sleaze fest, and with increasing publicity about paedophilia and online stalking it just wasn't worth the risk for them to keep the un-moderated chatrooms going anymore because for a 'family friendly' company, that aint a good image.
