I should go to the hospital "right away", I know. But .... how long is right away anyways? I mean, if I would be at my friends house, do I have time to go home, get my husband and my things or should I rush to the hospital and have somebody call my hubby to bring my bag?? How long do I have .... hour, two.... or do I REALLY have to go immediately?
P.S. Mine didn't break yet, just asking.... I'm 39 wks..

If I remember right, you've got an hour or two. Mine never broke with my first child, but did with my second - in the middle of the night! It took me a little while to realize what was going on, wake up my husband, then wake up my in-laws so that they knew they were in charge of my son. We still had plenty of time, although I was getting uncomfortable.

I think I remember from Lamaze being told that you could even take the time to take a shower before you headed to the hospital if you felt like it. You don't want to sit around for hours though.

Congratulations and hope your baby arrives happy, healthy, and soon!

sweetie, you don't need to rush anything until the contractions are bad enough that you can no longer speak through them. you do NOT have to go immediately upon the water breaking~ that's just a common myth.

obviously, a lot of women in our society like to get to the hospital soon after the rupture of membranes. most of the time, that is a personal choice so that pain medications can be given sooner. it is true, though, that the baby should be delivered (or darn close to it) by the 24 hour mark, as infection rates do increase after this point and most ob's like to have an iv antibiotic on board at this point.

just remember to listen to your body. you will know when the time is right to head to the hospital.

best wishes for a safe and healthy delivery!

It all depends on when your waters break, They can break at any time of labour before or during, If its before your contractions have started you have time to go home but ring the hospital first and they will tell you weather to come up straight away or if you should wait a little while, It will all depend on when in your labour they break, With my son my waters didn't break until I was 10 cm dilated and had been in hospital for 6 hours but then with my daughter My labour hadn't started they broke 3 hours before my daughter was born and 2 hours before labour even started I waited over an hour to go up to the hospital but as soon as I rang and told them it had broken they told me to come up as they like to check to make sure its the right colour and bub isn't in stress, If this is your first baby you should have time to go home and get your things but it will depend on your situation. Good luck and Congratulations

well first of all you must know that your water might not break. My water broke with my first child but not with my second. when my water broke with my first i was at work i had time to go home about 15 min drive my husband (at the time) took a shower and then we drove to the hospital another 15 min drive and i got there at 9:00 am and didn't have my daughter until 6:57 pm. don't worry you will know how much time you have trust me. when the pains get to the point where you can's stand. then know you don't have much time:)

Ok you don't have to rush to the hospital. You do need to call your OB right away though and see what he/she says. They will probably tell you to wait for X amount of time before going. They will have you delivered within 24 hours though. Any more questions you should call your OB because every doctor's opinion and instructions will vary with each situation.

If this is your first pregnancy, you should get to the hospital, not in a panic, just put a few things together and go.Someone can bring you what you need, and you can have someone call your husband,or you can call him.Its hard to predict how soon the baby comes, and you want to be at the hospital so you can have a safe delivery, and a healthy baby! Congratulations!

The body is an uncomplicated element, with exertions exceptionally. I have had 3 toddlers and both organic births were thoroughly diverse. My first daughter they had to interrupt my water to commence my contractions and later , 32 hrs later, they began. Now my 2d daughter, my water broke at living house and interior of an hour my contractions began. the element to envision is how the water seems even as it comes out and flow ahead and make contact with the well being care service to enable them understand what's taking position and your progression. Now in accordance to the well being chart of you and your toddlers, they'd have you ever are available and they'd have you ever wait till your contractions are 5min aside and lasting an entire minute. the worry with even as the water breaks is that an infection can now enter and also the toddlers organic danger-free practices is leaking out. you could definately call the well being care service to enable them understand and then they're frequently extra constructive apt to allow you to realize what to do next. keep close to to living house and the medical institution as we talk on your being pregnant and keep your delivery plan accessible with the trunk complete of suitcases. good success.

After you water breaks the baby needs to be born within 24 hours or sooner of course. They want you to go the hospital quick, because once your water breaks, your labor can go much faster.

You have time to go get your husband and your things (especially if this is your first baby)

Once you have everything you need go directly to the hospital - otherwise you can get an infection and you will definitely get reamed out by the nurses if nothing else

congrats - good luck on your delivery
