i couldnt get the correct answer for this question

A log is known to be either oak or pine. It displaces 3.6 gal of water and weighs 27.0 lb. Is the log oak or pine? (density of oak = 0.9 g/cm3; density of pine = 0.4 g/cm3)

____g/cm3

convert lb into gm
convert gal into cm3

and then divide gm by cm3 which will give you density.
Now try to compare it to the density of each.
Whatever matches is the answer.

So you know that the volume is 3.6 gallons, since that is how much it displaced right. And you know the mass. You know density equals mass divided by volume.

But you need to convert lbs to grams, since that is what density is measured in. And you need to convert 3.6 gallons of water to cm3 (cubic centimeters) because that is what density is measured in.

27lbs=12246.99399 grams
3.6 gallons=13627.48242 cm3 (same as mL)

SO now you do mass divided by volume 12246.99399/13627.48242

=0.89869820503499868026246919935487

THis is the denstiy, just round it to .9, which means it is oak.

If you're still confused im me, I'll be on for a while.

You should be able to do this your self just convert gallons into ml(the same thing as cm3) and convert lbs to grams the density should equal one of the two given densities

all of us be responsive to from the formula that there are 9 moles of oxygen atoms to each mole of the compound, this implies that we in simple terms ought to artwork out what number moles of the compound are in 21.3g. The atomic weights are: Al - 27 N - 14 O - sixteen this implies that the molar weight of the compound is Al + 3N + 9O 27 + forty two + a hundred and forty four 213 g/mol From this we are able to work out that we 0.a million moles of the compound. seeing that all of us be responsive to that there are 9 moles of oxygen atoms in each and every mole of compound then all of us be responsive to that we've 0.9 moles of oxygen atoms. a million mole of oxygen atoms includes 6.022*10^23 atoms then 0.9 moles includes 5.420 * 10^23 oxygen atoms. With the uranium 235 all of us be responsive to that there are 6.022*10^23 uranium atoms in 235g consequently the mass of one atom is 235 / 6.022*10^23 = 3.902 × 10^-22 g to place it yet in a distinctive way a million atom of U-235 weighs 390 yoctograms

3.6 gallons = 13,627.4825 cubic centimeters
27 pounds = 12,246.994 grams

Density = mass/volume

12,246.994/13,627.4825 = 0.9, therefore it is oak.
