Its okay hun just remain calm. Go put a washcloth in your panties to absorb the blood until you can get some pads. Just tell your dad you need to get some feminine products and could he give you some money and a ride to the nearest grocery store or pharmacy. I suggest you buy some pads because it is your first time. Try Always Ultra Thins. Remember to change them every 3 or 4 hours, it depends on how heavy your flow is. You don't want a leak. Cold water gets blood stains out of clothes. Always keep some pads in your locker or in a hidden compartment in a purse and keep a spare pair of pants in your locker. I suggest you wait a year or two to switch to tampons. Just remember use the lowest absorbency you need and change it every 3-4 hours so you don't get toxic shock syndrome. And pantyliners are good to catch any leaks if you don't make it in time. To deal with cramps you can use a heating pad or some Advil. Exercise usually helps deal with the pain and can help shorten your period. Periods usually last around a week or less. Don't be embarrassed it happens to every girl eventually. Good luck.

first go to the store and buy some pads. You will need some overnight ones too. So get normal or medium flow and then get heavy flow pads. Sometimes when you get your period you get cramps. These get worse as you get older. I take motrin and that helps me alot. Also when you have your period your stimach may become upset and this is normal. You will start out with a very havy flow in the beginning of the 7 days and then once you get to the end (5th or 6th day) you can start to see that the flow is very low or nothing at all.
Oh and you wont feel like doing much when you have your period. Make sure you change the pads once they get full otherwise the blood will get on your pants.

I know you are a little frightened, but don't worry. Sometimes your first period will be real heavy and cramps at their worst but it should subside within 7 to 9 days. If it goes ANY longer than that have you dad take you to see an OB/GYN! You will need pads that help control heavy flow and honey...DO NOT use TAMPONS! Always Maxi with wings have done the best for me in the past. Have your dad keep a few boxes on hand okay? I started when I was nine and it scared the crap right out of me! No one told me what to expect or much less what to do. Make sure you keep track for a while when you begin and when you stop, whether the flow was heavy or light. This will help you and you doctor to know what is going on and when to expect you normal cycle. You will fall into a rhythm and will know precisely when to expect that time of the month. I had major problems growing up with my periods so stay aware of what your body is telling you. I don't know how young you are but don't fret, things will work themselves out. As for your dad...you might ought to get him a book for Christmas explaining these things to him....then he will be prepared for your sisters! :) Keep your chin up hon....As a mother of two sons and one daughter....I hope this helps you in some way. Take care of yourself always.

Okay, seeing as how it dosent seem like you have anything, to wear for your period, this is my suggestion, take a lot of toilet paper and roll it up kind of and put on a pair of full butt underwear, and just use the toilet paper to soak the blood up until you can find something, make sure you check it every half an hour or so, and change the toilet paper.
The next thing you need to do is take on of your sisters or even your father if he's willing to take you, and although they might not know about periods, they can be with you for support, and go to the closest drug store/ grocery store, and go to the pharmacy, and talk to someone there and I know its embarassing, but they can show you what you need and help you out, which is better then all of us trying to explain what you need to go and pick up, because there is so much stuff out there, the pharmacist can help reccomend something just for you!, and if you start to experience cramping, try taking a tylenol, or advil to help relieve the pain, and even a hot bath. Relax and welcome to womanhood lol. Good luck hun!

You should tell your father. He will understand. Most of the other users have told you everything you need to know. Just some tips, cut down on the sodas (caffeine), excercise, take Pamprin for pain, and you may be get some back pain , be sleepy and get tired alot. You will get this every month. you should also start charting when they begin, end, and start again. During the 1st few years they will not always be on time. But with time they will start to be regular and you will be able to predict when you are about to start menstrating. But in the mean time tell your dad to take you to the store to get pads and pamprin. Heating pads for your belly also work very well.. If you are still uncomfortable about telling him. Then just ask him to take you to the store, you dont have to tell him why until you feel comfortable. He will eventually see the purpose of taking you to the store and you probably wont need to say anything, unless he asks or until you feel confortable.

Don't worry too much. The first period or periods can be heavy. That's normal. Just get to the store or a friend's for some maxi pads. There are all kinds-pick what sounds good...something for a heavy flow. If you experience cramps in your stomach area, that's normal too; you can take some Tylenol or another kind of pain reliever. You can always ask your school nurse if you really need to, but I know that can be awkward. Your period will last around a week. Later on, you might want to try tampons- once you get the hang of putting them in, they are much cleaner and easier than pads : )

First of all, I'm sorry that you only have your father to share this big news with. Congrats on becoming a woman:) Anyway, go to the drugstore and get some maxi pads. Get a couple of different kinds so that you can see what works best for you. Do you have a girlfriend whose mother might be willing to talk with you or take you to the store? That would be best. It's scary at first, but you'll get used to it eventually.

You need to first find a way to soak up the blood, toilet paper, then have your dad drive you to a supermarket or drug store and get some maxi pads. I think theres some pretty nice ones for girls who are just starting out and they come with instructions.
Good Luck

Funny - for this you have put your question to this forum. You have said it is your period and your question is already one week old. If it is period it would have stopped about 4 days back. If you do not have any elderly women in your house you should have contacted some know friend or neighbor (Of course Lady and elderly). If the bleeding has not stopped contact a Gynecologist immediately and she will treat you properly.
