This has to happen a lot. What is the best way for a parent to pass along their cool/valuable stuff equitably to their kids?

what has worked on my mom's side is they divide all the stuff into lots based on the number of kids and try to make them equal. then the kids draw lots. Now before my grandmother did this there were a few things she wanted to give to specific people like her engagement ring, an old pendant etc... but other than a few sentimental items the bulk was divided up... and everyone was happy

I prefer a "Trust" because it stays out of Probate, but many folks, do a "Will". Either way you just spell out who gets what.
