It depends on whether you're speaking specifically about U.S. history, or a broader scope. I would say the most significant historical event in the last 15 years would be the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001. After that, in no specific order, I'd go with the 2000 presidential election that resulted in the U.S. Supreme Court determining who the President of the U.S. would be; the 1991 Gulf War; the war in Iraq; the war in Afghanistan; the Clinton/Lewinski scandal; the election of Boris Yeltsin and Mikhail Gorbachev; the end of the USSR; the space shuttle Columbia disaster, and the technology boom and bust of the 1990's. I'm sure I'm forgetting something major, and I excluded pop culture type things like the Michael Jackson trial...
