Call the library and explain the situation. Tell them you're sorry and it won't happen again. Ask if you can volunteer and work the fine off, other than that sometimes big city libraries have an amnesty period.
Good luck and really, call them. You never want to stay away from the library for long, they are heaven.

Some libraries have an amnesty day once a year which means if you return a book you've had a very long time they will accept it and not charge you the fine cuz the want the book back. Call your library and see if they have an amnesty day. You might have to wait awhile but I'm guessing you've had those books for some time now anyway since your fine is so large.

i would tell your mom. the seattle public library sends old debts to a collection agency. you can work out a payment plan with them and they will be fine with that. although you wont be able to check out books until you have paid it down to less then ten dollars.

Maybe you could do extra chores around the house, to raise money to pay the fee. This would involve telling your mom. I think she would be impressed that you are trying to be responsible about it. Or you could just stop going to the library.

First, tell your Mom. I know, you are afraid and don't want to ... but best that she knows ... and best she hear it from YOU! Trust me, if she hears it from the library first, she will be seething cuz YOU didn't tell her!
Secondly, approach the library and tell them your situation, and as previous person said, maybe they will let you work it off or something.

Tell your mother. Perhaps she will find a way for you to earn the money to pay your fine. We have to make restitution when we do wrong and this is a good time for you to learn that.

call and ask them if they ever have a "no fine" day. Some libraries have one once a year.

Ask the library if you can work it off by stocking shelves or cleaning up. They would probably appreciate you coming to them rather than ignoring them.
