I came home the other day and the screen on my laptop was busted. The screen itself in fine, no cracks. The liquid inside exploded and left huge black streaks through the screen. Can this just happen? It was fine the night before, and I had been at work all day. Im the only one that uses it, so how can this just happen? Would HP fix it for free? Thank you.

I hope you have a warranty, cause if not unfortunately that can be a pretty expensive fix, since laptop parts tend to be expensive. And yes it can be fixed, but not easily.

If you bought if from a retails store, you may want to take it to them and see if they offer any kind of replacement option.

If not you could call - HP - and they may fix it, but it may not be worth the price, depending on how much you paid for it and how good the system is, since laptop prices have dropped pretty significantly.

If you bought the comprehensive insurance package that the store tried to sell you when you made the purchase then the answer is YES. If you did not then NO and you will need to plunk down several hundred bucks for a replacement of the screen. If the laptop is old it might pay to just replace the whole laptop.

I never heard of a screen doing that and I have had laptops for years. The only time I ever had a screen problem was when a clumsy customer tripped over a cord and dropped it onto a concrete floor. Mysterious self destructs are hard to believe.

From what i have come to realize, there is no fix. You have to replace the laptop. THe other option, if not being mobile, would be to hook the laptop to another display device like a monitor or a tv and work on it

I would recommend calling HP to see where your warranty stands. If your computer is no longer under warranty, you'll probably have to drop a few hundred bucks to get a new screen, unfortunately....
