Pressure from friends and family. They are told NOT to get an education or they will become "too white."

Go figure; live in poverty just NOT to fit in our society.

First, I believe that a lot of children get discouraged because they feel like no one is trying to help them. If someone would really reach out to some of these kids I believe the rate would change. Also, why are whites always so focused on blacks or other races. White people have high school drop outs too and some don't care about education. White people are so judgemental towards other races they forget to look at the negativity that happens in their own race. No one is perfect and no race is better or smarter than the other. Also, I would advise blacks and Hispanics to take advantage of the opportunities that we now have here in America to flourish and not become another statistic. Don't get discouraged. Also, for some white kids who are drop outs I say the same. Education is very important.

In the Mexican culture, there is a very small 'middle' class and even smaller 'upper' class. The rest of this third world population does not put a premium on education. First, the family. Second, the Catholic church. Third, trying to find a job or make a living. This means that 10 years old who are supposed to be in school are washing the windows of cars at intersections so they can eat. As for African-Americans, who knows? They have been in this country long enough to figure out that without an education, you aren't going anywhere. WHy do Asian-Americans, even recently immigrated to the USA, know the language and do well in school after just a short time? Is it because the parental structure is together (unlike African Americans ) and make sure their children are getting educated?

The reason is in their culture. No matter how you try it, there is no way to deny that there is a Latino and an African American culture. Every culture has is values, some more important than others. It is not their fault because they were born into their culture, guided by their role models, by their leaders.
Education is simply not one of their most important traditional values.
Not only in the United States, but all over the world, wherever they live. Just look around!

because education isn't important o them as it is in other cultures. if you notice that real africans who came to america, exell in education and in ociety because they value education and hard work. they flourish within a few years to a few generations. but the african americans are still slipping into the abysse. alot of them are doing good, but as a whole theyare not. all they want is a free hand out and even after they get it and fail, they look fo someone to blame. look at pro football players with milions of dollars, doing some of the dumbest sh*t you would ever see. and they still look for an excuse. how can you explain that. mexicans arnt doing as bad as you would think, it is only the sever undereducated that has a problem, and the american cultuor trys to make gang life look glamourous so alot of them follow that. i see them breaking through eventually though, as for the blacks?? how long does it take to get your act together is beyond me.

I would have to say no, Why? because the white population out numbers the other two races almost 40 to one. So it is impossible for these two to have a greater drop out rate. You have just been a victim of American racism

I've found that in my school, most of them don't care enough to pass. They do terrible from the start, even though they get the most help. They don't respect the teachers, and talk back to any "white" teacher, claiming they're just being racist. This in turn puts them in detention, gets them suspended, and ultimately, they end up dropping out because they just don't care anymore.

I went to a high school with 50% Mexicans and 30% Blacks and 20% white. I can honestly say most of them just don't care, none of them tried. They were in the same school as rich white kids, who were the minority, and were given the same opportunity. Nothing held them back but themselves, none of them tried.
