Why are so many Americans racist towards minorities and foreigners? (All opinions and comments wanted)?

Question

Nobody in the U.S. was here to start with except American Indians, so why are so many Americans hateful to foreigners and minorities?

It makes no sense because Americans came here from Europe hundreds of years ago to escape religious and government persecution, as well as other reasons, to start a better life.

So why do so many hate foreigners coming here that are trying to start a better life, doing the same thing that the Americans' forefathers did???

Is it no longer okay? It makes no sense because that ISAmerica's history, and exactly WHAT America is--a melting pot of diverse cultures and backgrounds!

Isn't it sad today to find that alot of folks suffer from the "ME" syndrome. There dosen't appear to be a geninue concern for others. Our ancestors were from all over the world, they are part of who we are today. We offer a different perspective, share life, give life and have similar wants and desires. I agree, we don't care enough about others. Please be accepting and caring for others.

i don't think a lot of it is racist. i think a lot of it is the fairness between foreigners and the Americans. i mean if you moved here from another country and started to work you pay no taxes and get every government program that comes down the pipe. a foreigners can make 8-9 dollars a hour and can make more money the a American making 13 dollars an hour. if a foreigner get disable they get disability without every putting one red cent in. that's a lot of this countries money problems come from plus taking care of over populated prison of people on death row which should have there sentence carried out. i say if you are a us citizen you should pay taxes and everything else.

I think people are racist in general, not just Americans but everyone.

Things are quite different now than when the Europeans came over. They came to a wilderness and built a prosperous and successful culture. Tragically there isn't much left in the US for new immigrants to prove themselves with. I think that's what the problem is. There aren't any more frontiers, no more wild west's to conquer to prove their 'worth'.

People always want to see themselves as the 'ones' who made the difference and the easiest way to do so is to downplay the contributions of others.

Prejudice is never okay. But it will always exist. Some people act spiteful towards those who are different (not just Americans mind you) and it can be because of anything; social status, disability, weight, etc. Minorities are picked on a lot because it may be seen as more socially acceptable. Lots of people are against illegal immigrants, for example. So they feel they have every right to disrespect those who are breaking the law.

It seems to me that some people come to America to just t take what they can get and not give anything in return. And then when they can't take anymore or get what they want they cut it down. The ones that are trying to build a better America end up having to help the ones that are not trying.

This isn't an American problem, it's a problem with humans. Every society has viewed strangers with suspicion. Although we have a long way to go, I think that we are actually more tolerant than most societies are.

Didn't you know that the great conquering white man will prevail in America? They have tried to water down the various races by raping slaves and selling off the mostly white offspring to be raped again or bred as "fancies" (pre-civil war, and no I am not that old)...Many Americans want everyone to look and believe as they do. They try to conquer everywhere they go, I agree that America is no longer still a land of opportunity or the idea that even although it isn't...It should be.

In refererence to the idea that the Mexican people did not cross the American border, the border actually crossed them (an idea promoted by organizations like Aztlan)...I can say this much, anytime they want Arizona back, I would gladly move out and give it to them! Who would want it we have ruined it, spoiled much of the natural resources and the beauty of the state, I think if we could play nice with Mexico and it's people we would have a strong ally. Instead we have jackasses like the Minutemen who just want to stir up old timey racist KKK type of crap in Arizona claiming to build a Gaza type wall (which turned out to be a barbed wire livestock fence) The minutemen are con men, people like Chris Simcox and James Gilchrist collected hundreds of thousands of dollars and are infusing it into Gilchrist's campain and the campaigns of other racists such as Tancredo of CO. who push these radical vigilantes into the WHITE IS RIGHT mentality. They make me sick, and yes, I am old enough to remember the Klan in the South and the similarities in the Klan and the Minutemen are STRIKING!

Just an opinion and I have to tell you since I live in the county where the MMP first showed their asses, then I KNOW what I am talking about, we have fine citizens here (Mexican American citizens of Mexican heritage) who were made to feel uncomfotable and unwelcome in their country (AMERICA) now that folks is a shame, because these people work hard and volunteer to fight in the armed forces for AMERICAN causes and beliefs, but they are treated like less than AMERICANS because of these people who promote a white only society. Gilchrist has a son in law who is Mexican in heritage and a grandson who is half Mexican, I cannot imagine how horrible it must be to have a father in law who hates you because of his own small minded racial prejudiices. Folks if Mexico will have Arizona back, I say let's give it to them soon...because it truly sucks to live here in the mess that the white surpremacists have tried to make of what was once our home! I HATE THE VIGILANTE MINUTEMEN, and I liked the idea of MS-13 murdering them as they sat on their fat posteriors and did NOTHING, I hope they all enjoyed the sandblasting that they got on that strectch of desolate land out there by Miracle Valley Bible College, a Bible College run by a RACIST? Sure doesn't sound like a place where God would even want to hang around, because in the end, I believe that we are all the same regardless of race, creed, culture or color. I don't care if you don't like my opinons, they are based in FACT. I know that there were a lot of ARYAN WHITE POWER types here in April of 2005!

I think that racist people are very IGNORANT in the first place. They are just afraid of anything different to themselves. It is sad but true. I just feel sorry for them, they are poor lost souls.
Nothing makes white people better than anybody else (I am white by the way).

We, the tax-paying citizens, do not want the ILLEGAL immigrants here because they get better breaks than those of us who have been here. To think of an outcry for deportation of illegals as racial hatred is narrow-minded.
