It ticks me off that all those people got thousands of dollars for which the government can't even account. While some Katrina victims found work and got on with their lives others are still living off the government. I wonder why the government does not give thousands to people that loose everything in a tornado or fire? The government doesnt care about them, they would tell the people " IF you didn't have insurance.. tuff luck!" Why were Katrina victims treated differently?

I'm tired of it too! Most of the victims, for the most part have found new jobs, new places to live, etc. Its the other 5% that are draining the system. Houston is reporting an 18% increase in crime and they blame it on Karina transplants. The ones that aren't working are the ones that weren't working b-4 Katrina. But, of course, they play the victim card, Just like any free loader does!

It also disturbs many of us, the the government has mismanaged funds that were allocated for victims of Katrina. Our government is to blame, not the victims themselves. Some people are able to "shake it off" that are victims, we see them going on with their lives, others have been so severely traumatized that they may never recover completely. All America was shocked at the indifference of our government in the aftermath of Katrina, but our government wants to appear to the public to a caring, therefore the allocations of funds. If these funds were not spent wisely, all America can see this. Victims from other natural disasters are sometimes helped, but only if the area is set aside funds for disaster victims, usually applied for by the statesmen and representatives for a region. It hurts us all when we see the loss of all ones eartly goods and possessions, and even greater the loss of life caused by such occurrences. But with the help of God and our fellowman we can overcome. God Bless. Martha S.

Are you serious!!!Personally, I feel that the correct protocol was not taken. Many residents of New Orleans did not have power up to 10 hours before the storm so how could one possibly evacuate. Also, it was not the hurricane that caused all the disaster it was the lack of responsibility of the engineer who waited 40 + years to adhere to the codes and upkeep of the levees. When the levees broke that's when all hell broke loose. That's why people blame the govt. Do you believe if the Statue of liberty needed upkeep or maintenance it will be ignored for 30 + years or even the White House. i don't think so? Ignoring the levees was just the political agenda of the big time builders to rebuild New Orleans as a Casino district. they were just awaiting something to destroy and clear as many poor and minorities as they could without paying them off to move. Gentrification, look it up!!

Imagine your 16 year old cousin picked up for a possible suspect for vandalism on Aug. 28, 2005 just because he fit the description of a young black male with a red t-shirt and blue jeans. He sat in a holding cell for 48 hours. Due to all the drama with Katrina he was not given the phone call nor did he get evacuated. As the water grew him and other whom were stopped or detained by the police just set in a cell while the water was rising. They all drowned many were not even convicted nor did they committ crimes (runaways, profiled suspects) See the media left out so many things and you have the audacity to say its whining many people died slow and painfully, watching there lives pass by why the water rose. Our gov't who say the work for all people have their political agendas and the caliber of people whom made up New Orleans did not make their agenda!! And Katrina was an aid in whipping out what they see as the bottom percentage!!

I'M NOT A VICTIM BUT I HAVE COMPASSION FOR OTHER MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND THERE FAMILY STAYED WITH ME FOR MONTHS WHILE THEY TRY TO PIECE THERE LIVES BACK TOGETHER JUST IMAGINE YOUR LIFE ON A BLACK BOARD FULLED THEN ITS ALL ERASED AWAY!! HOW WOULD YOU FEEL??

How many jobs are you willing to offer the victims of hurricane Katrina? Especially the ones who still do not have a permanent address? For the most part, these were poor uneducated people that were barely getting by. There is not a high job demand for people like this.
Have you forgotten about all of the help that this country offered to wealthy Florida after those hurricanes? My question is more along the lines of why didn't the people of New Orleans get that type of response?

most people that live in areas where there are tornados KNOW that the likelyhood of having a tornado hit is huge. these people STILL choose to live in these areas. it is a personal choice.

People from New Orleans knew they lived in a low lying area, but they were also misinformed about how strong the levys were. they were under the impression that these levys would hold if a natural disaster would ever occur.

had the levys been built accurately the first time (to protect the beautiful city and its citizens) the government would not have to pay off the people who lost EVERYTHING!!! everything, their lives were completely torn apart.

have some compassion

More press and more overall attention, and More victims, im totally with you though. Though I would love to see the US Government spend a little more time and Attention to whats going on insdie the US then wahts happening in Iraq. The US is in an unhappy state and have been unhappy for awhile. I say bring back Clinton, he knew how to have a good time, and Americans were happeir back then.

Well in a tornado or fire, you don't lose your home, car, and job...for the most part! There are expections, as in people working at home. I lost my job, my mother lost hers, and my dad lost his. Wow...all employed one day and unemployed the next. Then I want you to drive to another state to just get gas in your car...sit in lines for 2 hrs and watch out because you could get your *** beat so someone can steal your gas! When you're done, go to work...oh that's right...you can't find a job because ALL THE BUSINESSES ARE GONE!

Next, go to your insurance agent, your lawyer, and your accountant...tell that person you will not listen to any advice they give you...you'll do it yourself. They don't do that as their job everyday....oh that's right, your insurance agent told you that you DONT NEED FLOOD INSURANCE, because you aren't in a flood zone.....oops! You're home flooded. Next, empty your savings account and 401K...so you can rebuild.

So you see....you compare the people of Mississippi to New Orleans...because you watched the news and saw what's happening in New Orleans, or you just chose to ignore south Mississippi. We are rebuilding; casinos have opened, condos have been built or are being built. Good people came to our aid...and we will always remember August 29, 2005, as the day we came together and got stronger. Yet, people like you....complain and whine...from Illinois I would assume by your yahoo name? Gee, you should talk to some people from that state, because I saw a lof from Illinois giving the time to help...sounds like your the odd one out....

nice... one of the largest tragedies in U.S. history and you compare it to a fire or tornado?

you sound like you said about all you know about the situation... which barely filled a paragraph...

my only hope is that others pity you as much as you pity those in Katrina...

oh... and the government does give thousands to any area that is a federal disaster area... which some hurricane areas are...

and many had insurance that the companies wouldn't pay...

What gets me, New Orleans was allocated 900 million$$$ to fix those levee's about 15 years ago, They blew it on other stuff. That city is one of the most corrupted cities in this country. Their Mayor Nagin is a complete idiot and so is their Governor. It's disgusting and all they want to do is blame the President for their own BS!

It's the governments fault that the dikes broke and the treatment of the victims is a national disgrace.
