Well you pretty much answered most of your main question there.

Rp = Roleplay (which you knew)
PvP = Player versus Player (which you knew also)

An rp/PvP server means that it is for people who enjoy Roleplaying their characters as well as player versus player combat.

I have never played WoW and don't know how they set up their game, but in most games I have played, there is typically a safe zone where PvP isn't allowed.

The only difference between a normal and rp server, is that rp is supposed to be happening on the rp server. Rp can happen on a normal server, but most people who enjoy rp'ing will look for an rp server to avoid the non-rp'ers.

RP.PVP is Role-Playing Player Versus Player, meaning its like a RP server, where you have your name and history and you really get into character. So you need to type in a dwarvan accect or a rough orc accent and you really need to act the part of your character. The pvp element is that of which you can still have contested territories and still can fight the other factions. And lastly yes shammys are only orc / troll for the horde side.....BTW hes playing WoW.

Role playing player versus player server.

Role playing: You act and speak as your character should in the World of Warcraft setting.

Player versus Player: On a Player vs. Player realm, you may be attacked by other players everywhere at any time, except in friendly (green) territories and in dungeons (instances).
