No. And I'm not for reparations for Indians or any other group that was mistreated or segregated or exploited before the present generation had any influence on the events.
And, no, I'm not prejudiced.
Simply put: Get over it and move on with your lives. Anything that happened to your great, great grandfather has little or nothing to do with the present generation - which, in fact, has made every effort to enact laws and regulations to prevent these aberrations from ever happening again.
Where is it going to end? How about reparations for woman - they didn't even have voting rights until early in the 20th century?
Or the Irish and Chinese and other immigrants - it's my understanding we worked them half to death for slave wages building the railroads and digging tunnels through mountains on our expansion west?
Reparations, indeed.
Get a life and stop asking for free handouts from people who weren't even born yet when the grievances occurred !

In a word? No. How much is fair compensation? How do you locate every living descendant of every slave ever held in the United States? Where would the burden of proof lie, on the descendant to prove they are entitled or on the government to prove they are not? Should someone who is a millionaire get the same amount as someone making minimum wage?
I've thought for a long time that what the government should do instead of reparations is build an national museum dedicated to slavery. It would be along the lines of the Holocaust museum. It would educate people about the history of slavery, not just in the united states but around the world, throughout history. The museum would also teach people about the contributions made by African Americans , both free and slave, to the US.

Yes, if a person is half-and-half, they need to pay themselves. I wonder if you felt as ridiculous asking that question as I did answering it. ;-)
I don't think that anyone is asking white people to personally give anything. The payment would come from the government, which uses our tax dollars. Blacks would end up paying for their own reparations, unless of course you are one of those people who think that blacks don't pay taxes.
I am not for reparations. It is not because I don't think that a great and terrible evil was done to blacks by Europeans settlers, but because to give reparations at this point in time would be a bit catastrophic for this country and race relations. I believe that it would put a wedge in this nation and create great anger and bitterness.
I also don't think that payment is the answer to black problem. The problems with black communities stems from decades of inequalities. While there are things like welfare, it does not serve to improve the conditions of the poor but simply makes them needier and dependant. Affirmative Action is not a substitute for reparations either. Contrary to what some of the misinformed may think, Affirmative Action is to level the playing field. For those who are unaware, many businesses, schools, etc., would deny entrance to well qualified blacks because they did not want any of them in their presence.
What is needed more than reparations is a change of heart. Blacks need to stop believing the liberal liars who tell them they are need and downtrodden and need the government (them) to make their lives better. Blacks need to step up and take responsibility for their well-being and start to demand better from themselves, their community and their elected officials.
In addition, from whites (others), they need to recognize that a favor was not done to the Africans by bringing them to America. They need to understand that their way of life is not necessarily the best way for everyone. They need to accept that blacks have a different culture that they should be able to express it (as long as it does not hurt anyone else).
They also need to understand the great amount of history and culture that was beaten out of the blacks. The blacks no longer know of their roots in Africa because they were not allowed to keep their traditions. I would love to know who my ancestors are past my great-grandparents. I would love to know where in Africa my relatives came. I would love to know of their traditions. Reparations can not bring back the most important things that were taken away by slavery: culture, heritage, ancestry, and history.

Nope. I do not. Slavery happened, can't change that. As far as it goes there were a lot of white people who worked in the underground railroad and also fought for slaves to gain freedom. Why should the descendants of those people be held responsible for the crimes of the slave owners? I think all has been said in apologies and affirmative action that can be. People need to let it go and get a life.

Yes, the part that is half-white owes the half-black part for the years that it oppressed the other half.
LOL! You are so funny. Haven't you heard of the one-drop rule? That person would be considered fully black not half-and-half.
The white part of that person wouldn't even matter anymore. ;-)
I just want what they said they would give blacks upon freedom. My family is STILL waiting for the forty acres and a mule...

Yes, and only the black half gets special preference for promotions, jobs, and college.
The person's white half must get screwed.
In all fairness, more and more conservative blacks are coming out against affirmative action and quotas, because it is another liberal insult against blacks.
Liberals pat blacks on the head and then give them things because they feel that blacks aren't capable to do it on their own.

Smarmy... cute i like it... now run along.
Reparations should be paid to anyone who has made money for another. Simple truth. If the south made millions off the backs of free labor, then said labor should be paid retroactively. So yes. AA's, and Native Americans too. AND the Irish, Chinese and other races that were exploited.
the racists are here folks... but it's not like they're intelligent or even slightly educated.
next.

Nobody owes them a damn thing. The best thing that ever happened to blacks in America is that their ancestors were brought over here.
Seen the state of Africa lately?
