Movies to Hollywood is measure like casual dollars. If a movie made only $1,000,000, to Hollywood, it's like they made only a dollar. And Hollywood likse to make a lot more money than a million. It's messed up and unfair but that's how it is. Hollywood is a greedy, greedy place. If just an average movie came along, they want to milk it for all it's worth. Milk it until the cow is dry. I know, it still is messed up.

Usually when a box office talks about how much a movie made, is how much it made after it made enough money to pay for the cost of making a movie. If a movie cost $30 million to make and it made $35 million at the box office, then after costs, the movie only made $5 million at the box office.

Sure. Although now it's over 600 million dollars. If a squirrel is willing to lay down some cash for some tickets, then the squirrel should have an equal shot at the jackpot. Fair is fair.

They need to make much more than the movie costs to make a profit. The money made first has to make back what they paid their cast, crew and extras then the costs to make sets, costumes, props etcs as well as the money they put into promote and market it.

If you look at the big picture, if a movie makes around $1mil in the first week... it's probably crap... Most Box Office Hits make lose to $15-16mil in the first week...

They don't actually mean the movie didn't make ANY MONEY.

They mean they didn't make a significant amount of money....more or less....they made a really crappy amount of money.

One million dollars is not sh*t in the movie business.

Simple economics, man.

You spend money to make money. Well, supposed to make money.

If you don't make your money back....then your film is a bomb. Sure, it made one million, but what if it cost 14 million to make?
